Learn About Bo Peep’s Return in Toy Story 4!

Toy Story 4 tickets for Walt Disney Pictures and Pixar’s upcoming sequel are now on sale! To celebrate, ComingSoon.net is sharing new details about the character of Bo Peep which we learned when we visited Pixar earlier this year. While Bo Peep (voiced by Annie Potts) was only a minor character in the first two films and did not appear at all in Toy Story 3, she is a main and arguably the pivotal character in Toy Story 4. Check out the details below!

“From the beginning our editors compiled every single clip we have of Bo Peep,” story supervisor Valerie LaPoint told us. “It wasn’t that big of a reel. She’s definitely a secondary or tertiary character in the first two films, but we do know about her is she’s confident, she’s flirty with Woody, she’s often the voice of reason to him and she’s someone he confides in. She’s a grounding character for him on a level a little bit deeper than his relationship with Buzz. In this story we knew Bo would be the driving force and influence on Woody, she would be the essential character. She would go from supporting role to lead role.

“We started going beyond the world we knew of Andy’s room. Maybe she’s Molly’s toy? Eventually she would go to Molly’s room, and what was life like together with them as toys? What was it like that she was a lamp, an appliance, unlike all the other toys? Imagining deeper to the years after that after she was given away. Where would she go? Thrift stores? We let our imagination go wild with possibilities.

“Eventually we decided we wanted to take the toys into an antique store. It felt like a really interesting space we hadn’t gone into in the ‘Toy Story’ world. Would it be cutthroat? Would she be a Robin Hood-type character with a gang of friends? We started pushing in that direction. She’s also made of porcelain, so what if she wanted to be a figurine? Maybe she had such a rough life that she got to the point where she just wanted to be safe. Or we go the route where she fully embraces being a toy, leaving the lamp behind, ignoring the fact that she’s porcelain, just go out there.

“Woody’s the main character, but he and Bo will have a character arc and evolution. Where do we want them to be at the end of the film? What she brings to his life at this moment will inform who she is.”

Woody and the rest of the toys are back for an all-new adventure in Toy Story 4, welcoming new friends to Bonnie’s room, including a reluctant new toy called Forky. But Forky insists that he is NOT a toy! An actual spork-turned-craft-project, Forky is pretty sure that he doesn’t belong in Bonnie’s room. Unfortunately, every time he tries to get away, someone yanks him back into an adventure he’d rather skip.

Woody’s journey in Toy Story 4 also includes a visit to a carnival where he meets Ducky and Bunny, two carnival prizes who are eager to be won. But when their plans are rudely interrupted by Woody and his friends, they find themselves on an unexpected adventure with a group of toys who have no idea what it feels like to be tacked to a prize wall.

Keanu Reeves, Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele join newcomer Tony Hale in the voice cast alongside returning cast members Tim Allen, Tom Hanks, Annie Potts, Patricia Arquette and Joan Cusack.

Toy Story 4 ventures to U.S. theaters on June 21.
