That ‘70s Show: Why Laurie Forman Was Recast | Screen Rant

Here's why actress Christina Moore took over the role of Laurie Forman from Lisa Robin Kelly during That '70s Show season 6, and how the original star's career, and life, were ultimately cut short. Laurie was the older sister of Eric (Topher Grace) and the daughter of Red and Kitty (Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp, respectively). She was much more popular than Eric and came off as extremely manipulative.

Due to her behavior, her parents didn't have the best of expectations of their daughter but it was still clear that Red viewed her as his favorite. Laurie entered a secret fling with Kelso (Ashton Kutcher) despite the fact that he was in a relationship with Jackie (Mila Kunis). She also had an affair with one of her professors before flunking out of college. In the middle of That '70s Show season 3, Laurie seemingly disappeared.

Kelly was written out of the show with an explanation that Laurie went off to beauty school. It had since been revealed that Kelly's newfound fame was a bit too much to handle. As a result of her time on the sitcom, Kelly was getting more roles such as CharmedJawbreaker, and Clubland. She then reportedly lost a child and Kelly turned to drinking. It was rumored that her absence on That '70s Show was due to a drug problem but the actress stated that her alcoholism was the real issue. Kelly managed to repair her connections to the series and her character returned in season 5 but that would be the end of her acting career.

Kelly was set to return for the following season but the issues in her personal life arose once again, causing the series to recast Laurie with Moore. The scenes with Laurie in the season 6 premiere had to be re-shot due to the casting change. Moore left MADtv to take on the role of Laurie and had previously worked on shows like Beverly Hills, 90210, Married... with Children, Wings, The Drew Carey Show, and FriendsMoore's time on That '70s Show ended up being short-lived since she only appeared in six episodes. Laurie didn't appear in That 70s Show's final two seasons but she was referenced a few times.

Sadly, Kelly's career or life never fully got back on track after leaving That '70s Show. In 2010, Kelly was arrested for a DUI and had a history of domestic violence charges. Just before divorcing her husband in 2013, Kelly was arrested for another DUI. A few months later, the actress vowed to get her life and career back on track. Kelly entered a rehab center but tragically passed away in her sleep a few days later. Her death was later blamed on an accidental overdose.
