Southern Charm Star Naomie Olindo's Dad Loses Battle Against Cancer

Naomie Olindo, of Southern Charm, revealed on social media that after "privately fighting" cancer for the past year, her father Joel has passed away.

26-year-old Olindo, who hails from Nice, France, joined the cast of the popular Bravo show Southern Charm as a recurring character during the third season, and was most recently bumped up to main character status for the sixth season. She was in a relationship with her co-star Craig Conover for three years, which is what initially brought her to the show, but once fans (and producers) saw that she also brought the drama with her thanks to her fiery personality and honesty about her castmates, it seemed evident that she'd be sticking around on the Charleston-based show. While she's normally known for being in high spirits - or at least spirited - Naomie took to social media a few days ago to share some sad news.

In a heartfelt post on Instagram (via People), the 26-year-old Bravo reality star shared that she has "lost a piece of her heart," revealing that after "privately fighting esophageal cancer for 12 excruciating months, my dad lost the only fight he’s ever lost." Naomie's father Joel, as well as her mother Carole, had made appearances on multiple seasons of Southern Charm since their daughter joined the cast; however, no mention of his illness was made. "He died peacefully surrounded by people that loved him more than words can explain," the French expat continued, and she is "very thankful for the kindness and love our friends and family have shown my mom and me during the most difficult time of our life." Naomie says she missed her dad "before he was even gone" and that she "can't imagine what this road will be like," later writing that "there aren't really words for this pain." Naomie finished her tribute post to her father by sharing information about the wake that will be taking place in his honor on January 4, 2020, and she wrote that "if he impacted your life in a tiny way or in a big way, we would love to see you there to celebrate my dad."

Seasons of Southern Charm typically film in the fall and premiere in the spring, though Bravo has yet to confirm a season 7 premiere date for the series. There has been speculation that the new season's production has been delayed, so it's unclear whether this difficult chapter in Naomie's life will be featured on the next season or not. Olindo's co-star Kathryn Dennis suffered her own loss in 2019 as well after her mother, Allison, passed away in August after an extended battle with an undisclosed illness. While it's never something a child wants to experience, Kathryn and Naomie now have the shared experience of losing a parent too soon.

Losing someone you're close to is never an easy experience, but its especially difficult when it happens during the holiday season, a time when people want to spend time with their family. Many of Naomie's Southern Charm co-stars commented their support for her during this difficult time, including Kathryn Dennis and Cameran Eubanks, as well as Naomie's fellow Bravo stars such as Vanderpump Rules' Stassi Shroeder and Katie Maloney-Schwartz. Viewers often remarked about Naomie's close relationship with her parents and how wonderful her parents seemed, so Joel Olindo is sure to be in everyone's thoughts after his passing.
