The Rise Of Skywalker is here, and with it comes the end of the sequel trilogy and, by extension, the Skywalker saga. A forty-year plus journey through the Star Wars universe which starting in 1977 ended in 2019 with the ninth installment in the saga/ While there are standalone films as well as a plethora of other media and stories, this is an era has ended,
The Rise Of Skywalker was full of fan service, emotional moments, fast pace, big action and overall, while some people do hate it, it is a fun, entertaining ride. Despite perhaps a clunky and convoluted screenplay, the dialogue led to a plentitude of memorable quotes. Here are 10—but not all—Rise Of Skywalker quotes that will stick with us forever.
10 "A Jedi's Weapon Deserves More Respect." - Luke Skywalker
The Rise Of Skywalker did a lot to either ignore or slyly retcon Rian Johnson's work in The Last Jedi. The most on the nose example of this is when Rey arrives on Ach-To, planning on going into exile and throwing her lightsaber into her burning ship before Luke, now a Force spirit, catches the lightsaber and says "A Jedi's weapon deserves more respect."
For Last Jedi lovers, this will be remembered begrudgingly, for its haters it will be remembered joyously. For those who do not hate it but do not love it, either, it will be remembered as a moment that is either funny or unnecessary. Either way, it is memorable.
9 "I Am All The Jedi!" - Rey
The climax of the film sees the Emperor suck the life force from Ben and Rey. While down Rey asks the Jedi of the past to give her strength, they answer her call. When she rises, Palpatine exclaims she cannot defeat him, saying "I am all the Sith" while shooting lightning at Rey. However, Rey deflects and uses both Leia's and Luke's saber saying "And I... am all the Jedi." destroying Palpatine.
Part of what Star Wars is, is the battle of good and evil, and this is what Rise Of Skywalker ends with, the Sith vs the Jedi. It is a powerful piece of dialogue fans will remember for years, even if it may be considered cheesy or on the nose in its message.
8 "Taking one last look, sir, at my friends." - C-3PO
To translate ancient Sith text on the dagger our heroes retrieve, Threepio's memory must be wiped. Threepio heroically agrees and, in the moment from the trailers that brought tears to fan's eyes, the droid looks at all his friends not saying anything until Poe enquires, and C-3PO says "Taking one last look, sir. At my friends."
The moment would be higher on the list had Threepio not gotten his memory back. Nonetheless, it is an emotional moment and helps make C-3PO one of the film's standout characters.
7 "We had each other. That's how we won." - Lando Calrissian
Lando Calrissian's appearance in The Rise Of Skywalker is amazing and this quote conveys one of the film's main messages. As our heroes doubt themselves and their ability to win this battle, to bring peace to the galaxy as he did with his friends, Lando reminds them nobody is ever ready and that "we had each other. That's how we won."
This quote sums up perfectly the message of heroism and sticking together. The heroes need to pull together, everyone needs to pull together and as a team, they can win—they can defeat any evil. The quote is both nostalgic and memorable as well as brilliant.
6 "I know." - Han Solo
One of the most surprising parts of Rise Of Skywalker was the return of the iconic space pirate Han Solo as he appears as a memory of Kylo Ren. Following Leia's death, Rey impales Kylo, heals him, escapes, and we see Kylo contemplating until Han comes on screen and talks to his son. When Kylo tells his father he does not have the strength to do what he must, he says "Dad..." to which Han replies "I know."
This is pretty beautiful. Han's appearance is emotional enough, but this callback, and his reason for appearing is even more so, especially with Kylo trying to tell him he loves him, this quote epitomizes the scene which is amazing and will remain with fans for years,
5 "Never underestimate a droid." - Leia
This is a quote that is in a Force Awakens deleted scene, but it is used in The Rise Of Skywalker while Leia is training Rey. When Rey exclaims that she will earn Luke's saber, BB-8 then chirps in and Rey tells him he cannot do it for her, prompting Leia to say "never underestimate a droid."
With so many fantastic and heroic droids in the Star Wars universe such as K-2SO, C-3PO, Chopper, BB-8, and, of course, R2-D2, it is brilliant to see them get a nod of recognition here that they thoroughly deserve and that fans of droids will remember.
4 Confronting fear is the destiny of a Jedi." - Luke Skywalker
When Rey tells Luke she is scared of herself, Luke then tells her it does not matter that she is a Palpatine, what matters is her heart and spirit, and that, even though she is scared, "confronting fear is the destiny of a Jedi."
This relates to a lot of moments throughout Star Wars from Luke facing Vader and the Emperor to Rey and Kylo's journeys throughout the sequel trilogy. Depending on your point of view, this either builds on how Luke acts in The Last Jedi as he sacrifices himself and faces Kylo or it corrects Luke's opinion from the early stages of The Last Jedi that led him to exile. Either way, the quote is memorable and encapsulates a lot of what being a Jedi is.
3 "I'm Rey... Rey Skywalker." - Rey
The last scene of the film sees Rey and BB-8 travel to Tatooine to Luke's homestead and bury both his and Leia's lightsabers. As she does this, an elderly woman asks who she is, and Rey tells her "Rey," to which the woman asks her full name only for Rey to look out, see the Force ghosts of Luke and Leia and proclaim "Rey... Skywalker"
The quote itself may not be for everyone, and, in fact, if Rey had owned her heritage and changed what it means to be a Palpatine, it would have been a more interesting route. However, the simple poetic beauty of the quote is that the final word in the Skywalker saga, in the Skywalker story, is the word "Skywalker," to which nostalgia is amplified tenfold with the twin suns showing up too.
2 "You've been a real friend, R2. My best one, in fact." - C-3P0
Arguably the best duo in Star Wars helps create this tear-jerking quote. Before the heroes set off on their quest, Threepio simply tells R2 that "In the event, I don't make it back, I want you to know you've been a real friend R2. My best one in fact."
These two fantastic droids have been like a bickering old married couple during their time in the saga, but, ultimately, they are the best of friends, and this quote from Threepio beautifully shows that. It is an unexpected gut punch that truly puts their story into perspective.
1 "Goodbye, dear princess." - Maz Kanata
A quote that truly hurts and can be felt by all Star Wars fans; Leia dies in this film, using the last of her energy to call out to her son, and, at her memorial, Maz Kanata says "Goodbye, dear Princess."
This quote is so relatable to all the fandom who have mourned the loss of one of Star Wars' greatest components. It was assumed by most Leia would pass in this film, and this quote is enough to bring any fans to tears when the moment comes.
