Bill & Ted 3 Video Reveals New Character's Connection To Original Movies

A new video clip from the upcoming Bill & Ted Face the Music reveals a new character’s connection to the original movies. The eponymous time traveling, stoner duo’s first adventure in 30 years will arrive soon, much to the delight of fans. The road to getting the third film off the ground has been a rocky one, with numerous delays and uncertainty straight from the outset. Then, just as things seemed to be moving along smoothly, the COVID-19 pandemic arrived, further complicating the film’s release.

Thankfully, a release date has been set, and regardless of the pandemic, Bill & Ted Face the Music will arrive in theatres as well as VOD on August 28. Yet despite the upcoming release having been years in the making, the new film has been doing a good job of keeping a lot under wraps. Fans are aware of the basic gist of the film’s plot, in which a middle-aged Bill and Ted travel to the future in order to learn the song that will unite the world as well as save the future, and bring it back to the present. But as it’s been three decades since the last film, Bill & Ted 3 welcomes new characters – the likes of which fans still don’t know much about.

Fortunately, a new clip has arrived courtesy of Orion Picturesofficial YouTube account, which reveals one particular new character’s connection to the past two Bill & Ted films. Comedian Kristen Schaal, who joined the production last July, appears in the clip, revealing herself to be Rufus’ daughter, Kelly. Arriving in the present in order to bring Bill and Ted to the future, Kelly has apparently taken on the legacy that her father, Rufus, left her. Check out Kelly’s clip below:

Comedian George Carlin, who played time-traveling guru Rufus in the first two films, passed away in 2008. It’s since been revealed that he will appear in the new film using archival footage. Many fans will likely feel that Schaal has some massive shoes to fill in taking on the role that Carlin left behind. While this may be true, what little we do know about Bill & Ted Face the Music has thus far proven that it’s a film that’s as much about change and growth as it is about partying on.

Maintaining a fanbase for a set of films that arrived over thirty years ago is no small feat, and although Bill and Ted represent some of cinematic history’s less than articulate heroes, there’s no denying that people love them. Bill & Ted Face the Music sees the same two easy-going California dudes faced with a time-traveling challenge, but this time, there’s no getting around the fact that with the passing of time comes big changes. The addition of the pair’s daughters, as well as Kelly as their new mentor, are likely only a couple of the changes this time around.
