Netflix has recently released the first season of Warrior Nun, a manga-inspired action series about an ancient order of nuns who fight against demons from hell alongside the chosen Halo-bearer. When the halo accidentally goes to a random, deceased orphaned girl Ava, chaos ensues.
Season 1 left the fans with loads of questions unanswered, exciting their fevered imagination. Besides developing certain expectations for season 2, there are also several theories floating around. Some are outright ridiculous, while some would definitely add much-needed complexity and nuance to the plot. The pilot season serves as an introduction to the world of the Order of the Cruciform Sword and its sisters. The next one should take it a step further and add some depth to all the warrior nuns.
10 Perfect: Lilith Will Become A Powerful Demon
Those who are familiar with Jewish mythology pricked up their ears when they first heard that one of the characters is called Lilith. In mythology, Lilith is Adam's first wife who represents seduction and chaos. The word Lilith means a 'female demon' in Sumerian language.
It would only make sense that Lilith would become a powerful demon. That doesn't necessarily mean she will work against her sisters, but she will hopefully develop some supernatural powers herself.
9 Bad: Shotgun Mary Dies
The season finale left many questions unanswered. It cuts off mid-fight: Shotgun Mary is overtaken by Adriel's zombie-esque army, while the rest of the sisters are waiting to attack in the back. Things are looking bad for Shotgun Mary, but there is no way she is going to die. She is one of the best characters on Warrior Nun, so the sisters will probably save her first thing in season 2.
8 Perfect: Angels And Demons Are Actually Aliens
Just because the Church is deeply involved with the alternate realities, that doesn't mean they are actually dealing with angels and demons from heaven and hell. They might be aliens from different dimensions and have nothing to do with God at all.
There are numerous alien movies and TV series out there, but none combine extraterrestrial life with a powerful traditional institution such as the Church - Warrior Nun would be truly unique that way.
7 Bad: Michael Is Adriel
Since time might pass differently in the other realm, some fans suggested that season 2 might introduce Michael as a teenager or even as an adult. Since one of the angels in the Bible was also named Michael, he might actually be one. He has Divinium in his blood, after all.
The idea that Michael is an angel AND somehow grow up to be Adriel is a little bit stretched. The series would need to introduce additional complex Sci-Fi devices, such as time travel.
6 Perfect: Avatrice
Sister Beatrice was one of the only characters that were actually nice to Ava. She opened up about being gay and chances are she really likes the new Halo-bearer, even though she is considered unworthy by others. In episode 8, they affectionately stared at each other, so the fans already came up with the term 'Avatrice' to celebrate the blossoming love.
While this theory might actually come true, the show needs time to develop it. Then, there is also the danger of reducing an amazing well-rounded character such as Beatrice to her sexual orientation. (Art by @ishipgaygirls)
5 Bad: Tarasks Are Not Evil Because They Healed Lilith
They look formidable and they slay everyone in their way: no wonder it's been established that Tarasks are evil. These monsters from hell are after the Halo. After one unfortunate run in with a Tarask in a Moroccan port, a Tarask takes Lilith with him.
Since Lilith comes back unharmed, some fans believe Tarasks are actually innately good and that Halo belongs to them anyway. Hopefully, season 2 will introduce the realm where Tarasks come from and that it will confirm they are simply personifications of evil rather than angels in disguise.
4 Perfect: Father Vincent Is Not The Villain After All
It has been heavily implied that Adriel can communicate with Michael because of the Divinium in his blood. Similarly, he might have been communicating with Father Vincent, since he has Divinium-laced tattoos. Perhaps Adriel lied to Father Vincent and made him believe he wants to help fight off Tarasks and other forces from hell.
When Adriel reveals his true colors, Father Vincent looks upset and shocked. Vincent was one of the kindest characters, only to be revealed as the #1 villain of the show in episode 10. It would make more sense if he was conned by the almighty Adriel and that he was good all along.
3 Bad: JC Is Actually Jesus Christ
When Ava runs away in the pilot season and ends up in a pool without knowing how to swim, JC swoops in and saves her. She instantly develops a crush on him. Throughout the first half of the season, JC is there to help Ava: he takes her in when she is lost and helps her escape to Morocco.
Since his initials are JC, some believe it's short for Jesus Christ. However, while he does have a Christ-like savior role, he is by no means an actual Jesus Christ.
2 Perfect: The Halo Is A Ring Of Hell
While the Order of the Cruciform Sword itself might believe that the Halo is an angelic device that helps fight off demons from hell, it could very well be they (and consequently the audience) have been told a lie.
The Halo is burning red and it leaves a scar - doesn't sound heavenly, does it? Fire is typically associated with hell, so it could be that it's actually the "good" order that is actually unknowingly perpetuating evil in the world. What stems from this theory is that the Church is actually working in the favor of hell, making Warrior Nun a thought-provoking social commentary as well.
1 Bad: The OCS Will Fall Apart
With so much uncertainty in the air, the Order of the Cruciform Sword is definitely struggling to keep it together. Some fans believe that the order won't make it until the end of season 2, since no one is even sure who is good and who is evil anymore.
This theory doesn't make much sense, since the girls felt united for the first time at the end of season 1. Perhaps the order will have to redefine its values and goals, but it's safe to say that it's here to stay.
