10 Best Under-The-Radar Action Movies To Watch On Netflix Right Now

Ever since it launched its streaming service, Netflix wasted no time developing and releasing original content as well. The move proved to be pivotal as the release of several critically Netflix series set the company apart from the rest. Over time, Netflix also started producing original movies, a lot of which immediately drew attention due to its Oscar-winning casts.

Today, Netflix also boasts of several hit action movies, including Charlize Theron’s The Old Guard and Chris Hemsworth’s Extraction. Aside from these, Netflix also has several other action movies that have remained underrated to this day.

10 Bleach (2018)

After Netflix decided to do a movie based on anime series Death Note, viewers may have noted that it was only a manner of time before the company would take on a similar venture. In 2018, it released a live-action adaptation of Bleach. Much like the anime series Bleach, the film revolves around a high school boy named Ichigo who realizes that he has reaper abilities.

9 Lost Bullet (2020)

This 2020 Netflix action movie tells the story a genius mechanic who has been wrongfully convicted of murder. To prove his innocence, he must find a missing car that contains the only piece of evidence that can set him free – a single bullet. Not to mention, he also has to deal with some dirty cops.

This French movie is written and directed by Guillaume Pierret. Its cast includes Alban Lenoir who had a minor role in the 2008 action thriller Taken.

8 Braven (2018)

Although the movie didn’t achieve as much fame as Aquaman, Jason Momoa’s performance in Braven continues to be admired critics and fans alike to this day. In the movie, Momoa plays a logger and father who gets into a standoff with a group of drug traffickers because their heroin stash was hidden inside his hunting cabin.

During the film’s production, Momoa did a lot of his stunts, even telling Yahoo that he “got knocked out” when a bar fight sequent went wrong. Aside from Momoa, the movie also stars Deadwood’s Garret Dillahunt and Teen Wolf’s Jill Wagner.

7 Spectral (2016)

This relatively unknown Netflix movie sees soldiers fighting against a futuristic enemy. In this case, they face unseen beings who can kill people instantly upon contact.

The movie boasts of a readily recognizable cast that includes Emily Mortimer, James Badge Dale, Bruce Greenwood, and Max Martini. While discussing the film with InStyle, Mortimer hinted, “For a good portion of the film, I’m in a hazmat suit. In a weird way, it’s kind of sexy.” For the record, she does wear a hazmat suit in some scenes in the movie but it’s not what movie viewers may think.

6 Wheelman (2017)

In this 2017 Netflix movie, Frank Grillo stars as the titular character, a getaway driver who gets double-crossed after a robbery job gone wrong. Grillo has been involved with the film’s production from day one since he also serves as one of the producers.

As for his on-camera commitment, the actor also preferred to do all the stunts on his own. “All the time,” Grillo confirmed. “I never get out of the car. It’s always me, no stunt people.”

5 Peppermint (2018)

Surprisingly, one of Garner’s lesser-known films has been getting some rave reviews on Netflix. In Peppermint, Garner stars as a mother out for revenge following the murder of her family.

Aside from the Alias actress, the movie also stars John Gallaher Jr. (recognized as the antagonist in Netflix's Hush) and John Ortiz. Peppermint may have done poorly at the box office, but it seems that Netflix subscriber have been gaining a better appreciation for it.

4 Homefront (2013)

When fans think about Jason Statham, they often gravitated towards his box office hits such as The Expendables 2 or the Fast and Furious movies.

Rarely does anyone give a second thought to Homefront, a little-known action movie where Statham plays a recently widowed father and former DEA agent who tries to settle down in a small town with his daughter. The problem is he comes face to face with a drug lord and now, he must fight to protect himself and his only remaining family.

3 Close (2019)

Close is a British action film involving a bodyguard who needs to protect an heiress after she becomes the target of assassins. Playing the bodyguard is Swedish actress Noomi Rapace. She is best known for starring in movies like The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, and Prometheus.

Rapace also recently starred in Amazon Prime Video’s Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan. Meanwhile, the actress had also previously starred in two other Netflix movies, What Happened to Monday and Bright with Will Smith.

2 Below Zero (2020)

This latest Netflix action movie centers on a cop who must deal with ice temperatures and fight for his life after a prisoner transfer van comes under attack. Not to mention, he is also being hunted by conmen who manage to get free.

Below Zero is co-written and directed by Lluís Quílez who is also known for directing the horror thriller Out of the Dark starring Julia Stiles and Scott Speedman. Meanwhile, the cast includes Javier Gutiérrez who previously starred in the 2016 movie Assassin’s Creed.

1 Point Blank (2019)

In this Netflix movie, Grillo and Anthony Mackie team up outside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as they play an unlikely tandem forced to work together to save their families and take down a common enemy.

For the two actors, any opportunity together since they’ve already become best buddies is a good one. “Mackie and I met on Winter Soldier, and we had a bromance very early on,” Grillo told Decider. “I consider him family.” Aside from headlining the movie, the two actors are also involved behind the scenes as the both serve as producers.
