Wolverine's Adamantium Shines in Gruseome New Cover Art

The Adamantium that courses through Wolverine's body is getting exposed in the most spine-chilling fashion on the cover of Wolverine #15, coming in August. Marvel's solicitations for its upcoming books gave fans a chance to see what they can expect from their beloved characters going forward, and it seems like Logan's future promises quite the beating.

Although the near-indestructible metal isn't a naturally occurring aspect of Wolverine's anatomy - the Adamantium having been bonded to his skeleton against his will as a part of the original Weapon-X Program - it nevertheless has become synonymous with him and his mutant powers. The metal "enhancement," along with his regenerative healing properties, strength, decelerated aging, and many other related abilities make Wolverine incredibly hard to kill (although proven not impossible multiple times). Now, it looks like his upcoming battle with Arakkii pirate crime lord Sevyr Blackmore will test his metal frame's limits, at least judging by preview art.

Wolverine #15, by Benjamin Percy and Adam Kubert, is set to release on August 25 and features a cover showcasing an incredibly shredded Logan facing off against a monstrous, and obviously formidable, foe. And it's not his physique that's shredded. In this case, the phrase is a lot more literal. His body is actually torn down to his shiny, metal-clad bones. Half of his body, and pretty much his entire back, has been stripped of skin and muscle, exposing every part of his anatomy almost down to the last vertebrae. Take a look at the cover art and solicitation info below:

  • WOLVERINE #15
  • BENJAMIN PERCY (W) • ADAM KUBERT (A/C)
  • Variant Cover by Gerardo Zaffino
  • Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage VARIANT COVER BY INHYUK LEE
  • BLACKMORE’S FIGHT!
  • WOLVERINE comes face-to-face with Arakkii pirate crime lord SEVYR BLACKMORE! But will their fight lead Logan to the clues he needs to catch SOLEM, or put him right where the manipulative mutant wants him?
  • 32 PGS./Parental Advisory …$3.99

Of course, knowing Logan, he'll be able to regrow the missing tissue and skin that normally prevents readers from having to see him in such a gruesome state, but will he be able to make it out of this battle and have time to heal? Would it really matter either way since Krakoa now has the ability to basically resurrect mutants at will? Will he be able to get the info he needs to track down his fellow Adamantium-endowed mutant Solem? Only time will tell. However it plays out, on this cover, Wolverine most certainly looks worse for the wear.

In addition to the main cover, Gerardo Zaffino has also created a variant that shows Logan in a more feral state as he perches on a branch in the jungle. Wolverine has experienced many moments throughout his life where he's been less than civilized in both action and demeanor due to his mutation, and it seems like he may be reverting back to a more animalistic state in this upcoming issue. Readers will have to wait until August to see how his battle with the pirate crime lord will turn out, if he'll be able to find and catch Solem, or if he'll be returning to Krakoa bloodied and beaten.
