There's no shame in learning how to surrender in Pokemon Unite. Pokemon Unite is the newest Pokemon spinoff to make its way over to Nintendo and other mobile platforms. This is a competitive game where two teams of five must face off against each other. The team that scores the most points at the end is declared the winner. The thing with Pokemon Unite is that it does not show players the score until the end. It does show vague quotes like "you're in the lead" or "you're REALLY struggling" when playing but no real indicator on the score number. If a team is losing badly and wants to save time and give up, they will need to surrender.
This mostly happens after the final two minutes of Pokemon Unite. This is when Zapdos is introduced, and can completely swing a game from one side of the spectrum to the other. Capturing Zapdos not only will provide players with more points but will also remove the defenses from the opponent's goal, making it easier to score against them. This is usually the sure-fire way to know when it's time to give up if the other team claims Zapdos.
While there are many different reasons for players to surrender mid-game, it does require a group majority. 4 out of the 5 players on a team will need to vote in order for the surrender to count. This will instantly end the game, and the player will be sent back to their lobby.
While in a game of Pokemon Unite, players can hit pause using the + button. From here, press the - button to bring up a new menu. At the very bottom, players can press X to Surrender. An indicator will appear on the top of everyone's screen who is on the player's team. Players can then vote if they wish to Surrender, or ignore it and stay. This does have a cooldown, and players are only allowed to activate the Surrender option 3 times per game. Since matches only last 10 minutes at a time, this offers plenty of different chances to back out of a match.
If four players vote yes, the score will be displayed and the match will be over. There is no point staying in a game that is not enjoyable. Surrendering allows players to make the tough decision to call it quits when things are looking irredeemably bad. From the Surrender, players can come back stronger than before, and win the next game. This is a great chance to try out the new Mamoswine character, as failure is just the first step to becoming better.
Pokemon Unite is available now on Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android.
