Marvel Studios confirmed plans for a WandaVision spinoff starring Kathryn Hahn's Agatha Harkness —here's what the title, Agatha: House of Harkness, reveals about the show. Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe kicked off by introducing fans to Hahn's nosy neighbor in WandaVision originally known as Agnes. Although practically every Marvel fan expected the Agatha Harkness reveal, that didn't stop the character from being one of the best parts of Marvel's first Disney+ show.
Based on WandaVision's ending, it was clear that Marvel Studios intended to continue Agatha Harkness' MCU story in some way. Rumors about a spinoff show starring Hahn circulated for a few weeks before Marvel made the news official too. Even though Agatha: House of Harkness is now officially in development from WanadaVision's Jac Schaeffer, details on the show are still largely under wraps. The show's title is the only real hint about how Agatha's story will continue. While it might not seem too revealing at first glance, Agatha: House of Harkness' title could include several reveals upon further examination.
The first takeaway from Agatha: House of Harkness' title could be the show's exploration of Agatha's origin and the original Harkness coven. WandaVision briefly showed parts of Agatha's origin during the Salem Witch Trials and how she was nearly killed by other witches. This included the leader of Agatha's original coven (or house), her mother, Evanora Harkness. Agatha ended up draining the other witches of their magical powers and killing them all. However, she must've spent several years with this group of witches during the 1600s. Agatha: House of Harkness could explore this section of her life and rebrand the Salem Coven as the original House of Harkness. Marvel Studios already proved it can convincingly de-age Kathryn Hahn to look like a younger Agatha; having a section of House of Harkness flesh out her upbringing — particularly Agatha's relationship with her witch mother — would be an ideal opportunity to paint the villain in a sympathetic light.
On top of possibly exploring the "original" House of Harkness, Agatha's spinoff show could also focus on her reinventing it. There are over 300 years of her life that are currently unexplored in the MCU. Agatha: House of Harkness can reveal what she was up to during that time, and it could include starting her own coven. This would be a fascinating part of Agatha's backstory to reveal, as it might mean that there are younger witches who she's trained in dark magic that are currently associated with House Harkness. These new recruits could even be responsible for going to Westview to free Agatha of the spell Scarlet Witch put on her in WandaVision's finale.
Whether Agatha: House of Harkness' title means one or both of these explanations are correct, it gives the show some massive Harry Potter vibes. The popular wizard franchise is known for its own magical houses of Hogwartz: Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. House Harkness would presumably be a much darker collection of witches thanks to their use of dark magic, but it could also allow Marvel to establish other magical houses across the MCU. This could include Scarlet Witch starting her own school or lead to the formation of Strange Academy after Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Either one would be a way for Agatha: House of Harkness to play an integral role in expanding the magical corner of the MCU.
