American Idol judge, Katy Perry is taking fans back to her early career days with her new black hair, and her fiancé Orlando Bloom is a big fan of the color change. Katy's natural hair color is dirty blonde, a color the star has called "dishwater squirrel brown." However, when Katy first stepped onto the music scene, the singer was known for her jet black hair, which she sported for her first three albums. The "Never Really Over" singer died her hair light blonde for her fourth album, Witness, and maintained the color until recently when she went back to her famous black roots.
Katy's hair has been ever-changing throughout her career. Though she was known for black, she sported many different colorful wigs while promoting her album "Teenage Dream" back in 2010. In her "California Girls" music video, Katy showcased herself with lavender and blue hair. For her single "Wide Awake" her hair was a much darker purple. She also often wore pink hair to award shows and blue hair on her California Dreams Tour.
On November 10th, before hitting the CMA Awards red carpet, Katy showed off her new hair and brown leather Vivienne Westwood gown on Instagram to the joy of her fiance, Orlando Bloom. Amongst Katy's photos, the star also shared a video of herself in the midst of the hair-dying process. Katy captioned the post, "I just think it's time to give them everything they want." Her actor husband promptly commented, "Finally ❤️."
Though Katy hasn't stated the reason behind her decision to go darker, perhaps the pop star is gearing up for her Vegas residency. Katy is set to take the stage for Katy Perry: Play on December 29th at the Theatre at Resorts World. The singer showed off her black hair on The Ellen Degeneres Show when she was filling in for the talk show host. Two lucky fans went head to head in a game of 'Make It Rain' and both contestants went home with a pair of tickets to Katy's upcoming residency.
Though Katy looks beautiful with all colors of the rainbow gracing her hair, fans seem to be just as excited as her fiance. With the internet's sudden longing for late 2000s nostalgic fashion, it only makes sense that the American Idol judge would join in on the fun. Her song "California Girls" has been making the rounds on TikTok and as society heads for a 2010s resurgence, Katy's come prepared. Whatever the reason for her sudden hair color change, it's nice to see she has the support of Orlando.
