Matrix 4 Poster Supports New Oracle Theory | Screen Rant

Recent character posters for The Matrix Resurrections support the theory that Priyanka Chopra's character is the new Oracle. Between the Saved by the Bell revival, the Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City movie adapting the first two games, and legacy characters Grant, Sattler, and Malcolm all being set to return for Jurassic World: Dominion, it would seem the 1990s nostalgia trend is in full swing. With that in mind, it's the perfect time for the return of The Matrix franchise.

Of course, not everything old will be new again in The Matrix Resurrections. Keanu Reeves is back as Neo, as is Carrie-Anne Moss as Trinity, but outside of them, the cast is largely new. Even Morpheus will be a revamped younger incarnation, played by Candyman star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. In the case of the Oracle though, a new actor was expected going in, as the precedent for her changing appearance was set in The Matrix Revolutions. It's yet to be revealed how the Oracle will fit into The Matrix Resurrections, but it's become popular belief on the internet that she's the character Priyanka Chopra is set to play. The most recent poster featuring Chopra has done nothing to dispel this theory.

That set of The Matrix Resurrections character posters spotlights several characters both old and new, including the character played by Priyanka Chopra. While every character is surrounded by squiggly lines of Matrix-style code, everyone but Chopra is surrounded by code of a single color. Conversely, Chopra's character is flanked by a mix of red and blue, which seems to point toward her playing the Oracle. Red and blue are, of course, the colors of the two pills Morpheus offers to Neo in the first Matrix movie, with one offering him the chance to learn the truth about the Matrix, and the other letting him return to his prior humdrum existence as an office worker by day and hacker by night.

By coloring Chopra's character with both red and blue, the makers of The Matrix Resurrections could be referencing how the Oracle straddles both sides of the conflict between humans and machines. She's a program created by the machines, but works to help the humans, and in the end, strives for peace between them. She's a machine-created program that sometimes assists humans, but isn't truly at home with either, existing almost above the fray, but certainly not without making enemies. Thus, she's a blending of both the truth and the lie that Neo is initially offered, especially since The Architect refers to the Oracle as the "mother" of the Matrix. The Matrix franchise isn't one to do anything by accident, including its marketing, so it's hard to imagine the choice to color Chopra both red and blue isn't a sign of a deeper truth.

Though The Matrix was released at the tail end of the 1990s, it still became one of the most iconic movies to emerge from the decade, and in so many ways feels like a product of that time. Multiple franchises have proven that it's possible to successfully resurrect a 1990s property, and The Matrix Resurrections seems to be trying its best to recapture the cyberpunk style and mysterious tone the Wachowskis cultivated with the original movie. Considering the mixed legacy of sequels Reloaded and Revolutions, returning to the source, as the main poster says, is probably the best path forward.
