Red Notice 2 News & Updates: Everything We Know | Screen Rant

Dwayne Johnson, Gal Gadot, and Ryan Reynolds join forces for Netflix's latest action franchise, and here's everything that is known about Red Notice 2. Directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber, Red Notice is an original action movie that debuted on the streaming service in November 2021. It stars Dwayne Johnson as FBI profiler John Hartley, Ryan Reynolds as art thief Nolan Booth, and Gal Gadot as criminal Sarah Black.

The story of Red Notice revolves around the search for the third of Cleopatra's famous eggs, which brings John Hartley, Nolan Booth, and Sarah Black together. It is Netflix's most expensive movie ever made and was made with the hope of launching a new franchise. This is nothing new for Johnson, Reynolds, or Gadot, who all have histories of creating and leading franchises. Reynolds is now best known for helping launch Deadpool, while Gadot was at the forefront of Wonder Woman's successful franchise start. Johnson is the most experienced of the trio with franchises, as he rebooted Jumanji, elevated the Fast & Furious franchise, and is joining the DC Extended Universe with Black Adam.

Thanks to this A-list trio with franchise experience, there is an expectation that Red Notice will also be the start of a new franchise for Johnson, Gadot, and Reynolds. So what is actually known about Red Notice 2? Here's the status of the movie and how Red Notice sets up its sequel.

Netflix has yet to officially announce Red Notice 2. The sequel announcement will entirely depend on how well the movie performs for the streaming service. Red Notice received mostly negative reviews from critics, but the audience response has been more favorable. Realistically, the reviews shouldn't impact Netflix's decision on the sequel. It will be a matter of how many Netflix subscribers check out the film. Based on the massive fanbases that Johnson, Gadot, and Reynolds have, Red Notice is widely expected to be one of Netflix's biggest movies ever. If the film is met with such a response, then Red Notice 2 should be officially announced sooner than later.

Even though plans for Red Notice 2 aren't official, the film directly sets up another movie. Red Notice's ending jumps six months forward after Hartley and Black double-crossed Boothe and shows the two of them enjoying life together. However, Boothe then makes a surprise return to tell them he ratted them out to Interpol, resulting in their bank accounts being frozen. He proposes the three of them need to work together on an even bigger job that is now on his radar. Although Hartley doesn't want to team up with Boothe again, Black convinces him to take the job, and the three of them chart course for their next adventure - one that Red Notice 2 can fully explore.

Based on Red Notice's ending, Red Notice 2 should bring Dwayne Johnson, Gal Gadot, and Ryan Reynolds back together. The sequel could allow John Hartley and Nolan Booth's unlikely partnership to continue. However, the sequel should see Sarah Black work alongside them this time, following the film's twist ending and connection between her and Hartley. There's also a strong chance that The Umbrella Academy's Ritu Arya to return as Inspector Urvashi Das too as she pursues the trio.

Whenever Red Notice 2 is announced, the sequel likely won't come to Netflix for at least a few years. The creative team needs time to develop the script, but the real hurdle will be determining when Dwayne Johnson, Gal Gadot, and Ryan Reynolds will all be free to return. They are some of the busiest actors in Hollywood, so aligning their schedules again won't be easy or happen quickly. Fans shouldn't expect to see Red Notice 2 before 2024 at this point, as that gives everyone involved a few years to work out the story and get schedules figured out.
