Tyler Baltierra admits having more children after putting daughter Carly up for adoption was very difficult after a recent episode of Teen Mom in which they had a visit with her. Catelynn Lowell and Tyler decided to give Carly up for adoption due to their turbulent home lives. At the time, both Catelynn and Tyler were having issues with substance abuse, though their families were still unsupportive of them giving up Carly for adoption. They went through with it regardless of their opposition and shared their journey coming to terms with their decision ever since.
The pair are the only couple from 16 & Pregnant to stay together after their episode aired and have been together for 15 years now. He and Catelynn have since welcomed three daughters, Novalee, Vaeda, and Rya. Catelynn and Tyler have always been honest about the issues they have with their open adoption agreement, even saying on the show a few times that they haven't been able to schedule a visit with her as often as they would like. Most recently, due to COVID-19, they weren't able to see her for a full two years. While her adoptive parents don't allow Carly to be shown on TV, MTV cameras followed the couple as they prepared to see her, and caught up with them after the visit during a recent episode of the show.
Tyler is now opening up about how he felt about having more children after giving Carly up for adoption. According to Monsters and Critics, during an interview with the Reality Life with Kate Casey podcast, Tyler said he got a little sad when he had his second daughter, but that looking at pictures of Carly helped lift his spirits. While it reminded him of what he missed out on with Carly, he said it also helped relieve some of his pain because he could now imagine what she was like at different stages of her life. He said him and Catelynn would often look at pictures of Carly they had from when she was the same age as their second daughter Nova, and that doing so helped them get through it. They had Nova in 2015, six years after they gave Carly up for adoption.
Tyler explained that while giving up their daughter was the hardest thing they have had to do, it also had a silver lining. He claimed it forced both him and Catelynn to seek therapy for issues they had buried deep down. According to Tyler, it caused them them to look inward and confront some feelings they had been ignoring for longer than they should have. Tyler also explained that each child they added to their family helped they along in their healing process and saved their lives. Regarding his relationship to Carly, he claimed it was strange seeing her get emotional when it came time to saying goodbye this time around, and not knowing whether or not he was allowed to comfort her. He says she now understands who Catelynn and Tyler are.
Catelynn and Tyler are one of Teen Mom's strongest couples, and show no signs of breaking up anytime soon. It will be interesting to see how long the two will choose to continue sharing their lives on the show. Catelynn is now successful in her microblading career, and Tyler is pursuing a writing career with already one novel under his belt. Could this be their last season or will they film forever?
