Ariana Madix and Lala Kent generally got along well on Vanderpump Rules until Lala took issue with Ariana on her press tour. Ariana joined the cast on season 2, and Lala joined two years later on season 4. The peak of their friendship occurred during their famous backseat hookup on season 7. More recently, they've reached a new low after Lala unfollowed Ariana on Instagram.
Vanderpump Rules centers heavily on the cast's love lives. Ariana first joined as a fellow bartender and friend to Tom Sandoval. Tom was dating Kristin Doute at the time, who was paranoid about his friendship with Ariana. When Kristin and Tom's endlessly problematic relationship ended, Tom started dating Ariana. The two have been together ever since. Meanwhile, Lala started her Vanderpump Rules journey deflecting Jax Taylor's attempts at flirtation. She then found herself drawn to James Kennedy, the British busboy turned DJ. While James and Lala had a fling, they ultimately became just good friends. Lala moved on to Hollywood producer Randall Emmett, with whom she now shares her daughter Ocean. On the other hand, Ariana has vehemently made clear she does not want children despite pressure from her castmates.
Unlike most Vanderpump Rules conflicts, Ariana and Lala do not fight over men. Instead, their alpha female personalities tend to either clash or find common ground. On the season 9 premiere, Ariana's best friend Scheana Shay shared some less than flattering commentary from Lala about Ariana. Scheana played a clip from Lala's press tour for her book, Give Them Lala, over the phone for Ariana. Lala said, "With Ariana, it is what it is. It's like, let's not pretend. You don't give a f**k about me. I don't give a f**k about you. I don't care about you, whatever. You know?" Ariana was shocked. While she generally has an apathetic demeanor for all people, she went out of her way in the past to show Lala friendship.
In 2016, Ariana defended Lala when Scheana and Katie Maloney gossiped about Lala sleeping with a married man. In 2017, Ariana told Lala she had been in a "mentally and emotionally abusive relationship." This chapter of their more intimate relationship even resulted in a hookup with Tom Sandoval's blessing, which Ariana didn't regret. After recounting the good times with Lala, Ariana said, "I mean, I let the girl eat my cookie."
When it came to Lala's negative comments, however, Ariana was over being reasonable and said Lala could find someone else to put down to get listeners. While the distance between seasons has left Lala with less than fuzzy feelings about Ariana, the ladies' history of mutual respect can hopefully reunite them.
Vanderpump Rules airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on Bravo.
