It would be a shame if Daniel Craig’s exit as James Bond means Lashana Lynch won’t return either, so it’s worth looking into the points that attest to Nomi’s quality.
It was noted that No Time to Die revamped the James Bond formula by bringing in female characters with more depth. Nomi was great because she wasn’t a straight-up agent with boring qualities but was a person whose personality could be seen as well.
She had an awkward and funny attitude over her insecurity of Bond taking back the 007 tag that was charming for most viewers. It would feel like a true spy feature experience to see the protagonist infiltrate places under different identities and appearances. Nomi has proven she can pull off appearing as a civilian, so it could be time to present her in more daring environments with elaborate disguises.
There’s no doubt that No Time to Die’s most shocking scene was James Bond’s death, although there was nothing to indicate what happened afterward. Nomi can be the point of view character to depict the fallout from Bond’s sacrifice and how the MI6 handled it.
Additionally, Nomi had become close with Bond over the course of the movie, so it’s worth seeing what effect Bond’s demise had on her. Watching Nomi deal with grief, doubt, and a willingness to honor Bond is a story that is worth detailing in a potential follow-up.
The next step toward building a character that has been a hit with audiences is to reveal who they really are. Nomi’s attitude was understood in No Time to Die, but fans would like to know more about where she came from or why she became an agent.
Much as it was with Daniel Craig’s Bond, Nomi’s backstory can play out in multiple movies that offer glimpses into her childhood or extended personal life. It would provide renewed context for viewers to see Nomi as a 007 agent, also revealing why she was so protective about her status.
Nomi’s fellow Bond girl in No Time to Die was Paloma, who was equally as competent with her fighting prowess. However, the characters didn’t get to interact, leaving fans wondering what a team-up between the two women would be like.
Nomi would be an excellent contrast to Paloma, seeing as the latter is a bubbly, cheery personality while Nomi tries to be more of a traditional agent who nonetheless has a spunky quality herself. A Nomi-Paloma spin-off is the most feasible way to go should their stories carry forward.
There was always something suave and cool about Bond’s devil-may-care attitude, but James Bond did change over the years where his flaws were highlighted. Nomi is the opposite, in that her doubts and weaknesses are known, which she can work upon in future stories.
Moreover, Nomi is engaging because she’s imperfect, as audiences can relate to her insecurities and the learning curve she undergoes. There’s little need to suspend disbelief with Nomi, making it an appealing idea should she return and fans get to follow her struggles that she ultimately turns into her achievements.
Simply releasing a one-off movie for Nomi might not do the trick, especially if fans connect with her even more. Nomi can begin an entirely new James Bond spin-off where she’s at the helm, meaning there can be another 007 franchise that runs concurrently with the original.
Cinematic universes are all the rage in the current film industry and Nomi could be the springboard for the James Bond series to fashion out an entire world independent of Bond. Alternatively, Nomi could receive a long-running arc much as Daniel Craig’s Bond did that culminates in a definitive ending for the character.
Chemistry can’t be forced and is naturally felt, should it come across between characters. Nomi had few scenes with the likes of Moneypenny, M, and Q, yet she felt right at home with them as if they had been onscreen for many movies prior to No Time to Die.
With Bond now out of the picture, Nomi deserves to have scenes set with his traditional allies. The prospect of watching Nomi receiving mission briefings from M, gadgets from Q, and assistance from Moneypenny are all solid ideas that would be peppered with the natural chemistry the characters have proven to possess.
The barrel intro was a James Bond detail that No Time to Die included, among others, because it’s a guaranteed fan-favorite sequence. Nomi can be Bond’s successor, but it would be great to see her receive a personalized intro, which is something that fans haven’t seen in about 60 years.
It would tie into the universe-building aspect that Nomi’s spin-off would bring, with the potential to become a trademark for the character’s own series. More than anything, fans would get a kick out of watching an entirely new intro that would have the classic Bond edge with a creative direction.
The strongest Bond girls have been the protagonist’s equal, in that they are fierce and independent. Characters like Jinx Johnson, Camille Montes, and Wai Lin can attest to personifying dangerous women in the James Bond series, and Nomi embodies their characteristics.
However, No Time to Die established that Nomi was very much like Bond himself, meaning her characterization is a blend between the main character and his most empowered leading ladies. Nomi on her own would eliminate the need for a sidekick and she can encourage a new style of storytelling for the series.
