Fortnite Players Recreate Spider-Man Pointing Meme | Screen Rant

Now that Spider-Man is a part of Fortnite, players are reenacting the classic Spidey pointing meme. As befitting a character who’s been a part of pop culture for nearly 60 years, Spider-Man has had plenty of iconic moments, including one scene from the old 60s Spider-Man cartoon where the web-slinging hero confronts an imposter that’s framing him robbing an art museum. This leads to both the impersonator and the actual hero pointing at each other, a visual that has since been used as a meme whenever two similar things are being compared to each other - or someone accuses another person of something they are guilty of themselves.

The “Pointing Spider-Man” meme has been referenced in both Marvel and DC comics over the years, and even got a humorous nod in the post-credits scene of the critically-acclaimed 2018 animated film Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse - where Spider-Man 2099 gets into a shouting match with the Spidey of the classic 60’s cartoon the meme originated from. Developer Crystal Dynamics recently joined in on the fun by recreating the “Pointing Spider-Man” meme in honor of Spidey finally being added to Marvel’s Avengers as a PlayStation-exclusive DLC character last month.

With the Webhead arriving in Fortnite a few days ago, it was only a matter of time before players started reenacting Spidey’s famous pointing moment in Epic’s massively successful multiplayer battle royale. Reddit user ludiqpich198 recently posted an image of themselves and a couple of other Spider-Man players using a pointing emote on each other to Fortnite subreddit(via The Gamer), recreating the classic meme. Some commenters have mulled the possibility of adding even more Spidey lookalikes to the meme, a feat that is certainly possible using Fortnite’s four-player Squads.

Spider-Man became the latest Marvel hero to be featured as a playable Fortnite skin with the release of Chapter 3’s Battle Pass late last week. So far, players have reacted well to Spidey’s web-swinging mechanics in Fortnite, with some even comparing them favorably to Marvel’s Avengers. Spider-Man might not be the only new Marvel iconic headed to The Island either, as a recent Easter Egg suggests that his archnemesis the Green Goblin could be riding his bat-shaped Goblin Glider into Fortnite alongside some more members of the Uncanny X-Men.

From dance emojis being reenacted in blockbuster movies to in-game concerts from top-selling musicians like Ariana Grande, Fortnite has become a major part of popular culture over the past few years – with this week’s Fortnite Chapter 3 launch breaking records for the most concurrent players in the game’s history. As such, it wouldn’t be long before players started replicating one of the internet’s most widely shared memes in Epic’s virtual playground, especially since Spidey himself is now a member of Fortnite’s ever-growing cast of characters.
