Nightwing/Flash Reunion Teased by Tom Taylor Following Fan Demand

Fan favorite writer Tom Taylor has teased a team-up between Nightwing and The Flash, following one fan's request. Dick Grayson and Wally West have been fast friends, no pun intended, since their days as the first Robin and first Kid Flash. Despite this, the two founding Teen Titans have not interacted in recent stories, or crossed over into one another's solo titles.

To be fair, both Dick Grayson and Wally West have had a lot on their respective plates in the past year. Ignoring the recent events of the Fear State crossover event and how they bled into his chosen protectorate of Blüdhaven, Nightwing has been busy coping with the revelation that he has a half-sister and managing the fortune that was left to him by Alfred Pennyworth. Wally West is similarly busy, balancing his duties as The Flash, a new job with Terrifictech, and reconnecting with the wife and children that he lost after being written out of reality. Despite this, many fans have felt that the bromance between the two heroes has not been explored as well as it should have following Infinite Frontier.

One fan brought this point up to Nightwing writer Tom Taylor on Twitter. The fan said that they felt guilty asking for anything, noting that Taylor's Nightwing run with artist Bruno Redondo has been uniformly excellent, which is an opinion held by most Nightwing fans. Nevertheless, they still felt that the time was right for "a Dick and Wally reunion." Taylor seemed to agree in his response, which can be seen below, where he posted a picture of Dick Grayson and Wally West from the Young Justice animated series and said "We'll see what we can do."

The big question here is who the "we" might be. Certainly it would be simple enough for Tom Taylor to bring Wally West into an issue of Nightwing and do a slice-of-life story allowing the two friends to catch-up and bond over pizza. Taylor has already written a number of similar stories that rekindled Nightwing's romance with Barbara Gordon's Batgirl. However, there is also a chance that Taylor might reach out to The Flash writer Jeremy Adams and see if he'd be game to co-write an official crossover between the two series, pitting the two heroes against a shared enemy.

Even if the reunion only amounts to Dick Grayson and Wally West hanging out and talking about the recent changes to their lives, it seems likely that Taylor will find a way to make it interesting. While Taylor is renowned for how well he writes simple stories about heroes at home, he's also responsible for some of comics' most novel and twisted ideas, such as the Dark Knights of Steel miniseries and Marvel's Dark Ages. Given that, it's impossible to predict what Tom Taylor might have in store for Nightwing and The Flash, beyond the fact that it will likely prove enjoyable.
