Although the characters of Only Murders In The Building have some experience of murder and dangerous situations, none of them have experienced anything quite like Squid Game. The brutality and constant danger would certainly prove too much for some, others would rise to the situation, and one or two characters would even enjoy the sadistic nature of the competition.
These complex characters would certainly play Squid Game with different strategies, but no doubt all of them would be thinking things through and devising a plan. Who would be cunning enough to win the whole thing?
10 Teddy Dimas
As a criminal mastermind and one of the most intelligent characters in Only Murders In The Building, Teddy really should stand a good chance in Squid Game. However, it would be surprising to see Teddy actually competing in the games, as his wealth and nasty nature makes him more akin to the VIPs.
Although Teddy would probably enjoy watching the games and betting on the contestants, he would certainly not enjoy participating. Teddy would probably refuse to play, seeing himself as different from the other contestants and therefore feeling entitled to privileges. However, he would of course just get eliminated in the first round: Red Light, Green Light.
9 Howard Morris
Although Howard doesn't get a lot of screen time, fans do learn a lot about his character: he is fairly egocentric, he has a nervous disposition, he likes cats more than people, and he faints at the sight of blood.
For these reasons, Howard would not be at all suited to compete in Squid Game and it would be a miracle if he made it through the first round (especially because of his fear of blood). He might just make it to the second round of Sugar Honeycombs, but he certainly wouldn't go any further than that.
8 Tim Kono
While fans spent most of the first season thinking Tim was a bad person for letting his friend go to jail, they soon learned that he had honorable intentions. However, very few characters saw his good side, and most strongly disliked him. Although Tim has the intelligence and strategic mind to do very well in Squid Game, his sometimes cold and distant nature would be his downfall.
Having not made allies out of his competitors, Tim would probably have a target on his back during the fight in the dorm, being eliminated at this stage.
7 Charles Haden-Savage
Charles is a well-mannered and habitual person who finds it hard to open up to others. One of the saddest things about Charles is that he lives in the past and generally (until Mabel and Oliver come into his life) keeps himself to himself despite enjoying human company.
Unfortunately, this would not serve Charles well in the Tug Of War. Having made himself a loner during the games, he would struggle to find a good team for this round, probably ending up on a weak team and getting himself eliminated in this challenge.
6 Oscar
Although one of the most relatable characters in the series, poor Oscar has been extremely unlucky in life. His years spent in prison would prepare him well for the institutional setting and brutality of the games, but his kind and sensitive disposition would mean he would find Squid Game difficult.
Although Oscar could do well in Squid Game, he would likely not want to cause any harm to others. Faced with eliminating another person in the round of Marbles would prove too much for him and he would sacrifice himself before being the reason for another person's death.
5 Oliver Putnam
Although he would not enjoy the brutality of the games (much), Oliver's humorous nature and likable personality would certainly have him making allies out of the other contestants. Oliver has a habit of making friends everywhere he goes, and Squid Game would be no different - he would rely on his allies to help him get through.
However, Oliver's kind and generous nature would have him giving his marbles to Mabel and getting eliminated at this competition after having teamed up with his friend.
4 Detective Williams
Detective Williams would certainly have an advantage going into Squid Game - her career as a detective makes her familiar with death and being in dangerous situations. It would also give her a good insight into the minds and motivations of others, meaning she would be excellent at working out her competitor's strategies and plans.
Nonetheless, Detective Williams has a strong sense of responsibility and duty, and would make it her mission to protect the other contestants. This would lead her to pick a low number in the Glass Hopscotch, probably volunteering to go first. Of course, this would give her no chance of survival.
3 Cinda Canning
Cinda's background of uncovering murders would certainly serve her well in Squid Game; she would not be intimidated by the situation, and her strategic mind would no doubt have her making allies and puzzling her way through the rounds.
Despite fancying herself as the strongest contestant, Cinda's strategy would probably be going under the radar and playing safely. However, in the Glass Hopscotch round, this would have her picking a middle number, giving her little chance of making it through.
2 Jan
As one of the evilest but best characters in the series, Jan would certainly be in her element in Squid Game. She would be excellent at manipulating others and tricking them into helping her, meaning her competitors would underestimate her. In fact, fans would not be surprised if she was the Oh Il-nam of the group, the one behind the sadistic games who was actually choosing to participate.
Although Jan would get to the final round of Squid Game and would certainly want to win, there is one person who could outsmart her.
1 Mabel Mora
Mabel is cunning and smart. She would play the games to win, although she would not enjoy causing harm to other people. This said, Mabel certainly has the capacity to be aggressive towards those who she thinks deserve it (fans will remember Mabel fantasizing about someone breaking into her apartment and her murdering them).
No doubt, just like in Only Murders In The Building, Mabel would take down Jan in the final moments (and would hopefully release a podcast about her time in the games).
