Blake Shelton, the only remaining original coach on The Voice, just called Kelly Clarkson the second worst coach on the show. Kelly joined the show in Season 14, and won her first, second, and fourth seasons coaching with team members Brynn Cartelli, Chevelle Shepherd, and Jake Hoot, respectively. With three wins under her belt, she is tied with former coach Adam Levine for the second highest number of winning seasons. As he's often reminded viewers this season, Blake has won The Voice eight times, even coaching last season's winner, Cam Alexander, to victory.
On this season, once again Kelly is competing with returning coaches Blake and John Legend, as well as new coach Ariana Grande. With half of her team eliminated in the live shows thus far, she is hoping for another win with one of her two remaining artists — fan-favorite group Girl Named Tom, or Hailey Mia, the youngest artist in the competition. Unlike Kelly, John, and Ariana, Blake has yet to lose a single artist from his team. He's hoping country crooner Lana Scott, soul singer Paris Winningham, or music industry veteran Wendy Moten will give him his ninth Voice win.
While appearing as a guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy told Blake that he thinks Kelly will win The Voice this season, with Girl Named Tom. Here's what Blake had to say. "The only thing I worry about with that particular group is they're on Kelly's team. And while Kelly is a great person and an incredible artist and a great talk show host, she is hands down the worst coach we've ever had on The Voice." Jimmy quickly questioned Blake's statement, asking him if she was worse than Adam Levine. Blake thought on it and then added that Kelly is merely the "second worst" host the show had ever seen. This of course referred to Blake and Adam's love-hate relationship that fans have missed since Adam's departure. Clearly, Shelton is more than willing to continue to stir the pot and cause some drama among the judges on the show for entertainment's sake.
While The Voice definitely has some popular contestants this season, it is ultimately the coaches who deliver memorable moments every season. This show is known, and often criticized, for making them the stars instead of the contestants. After all, it's the coaches on The Voice who are credited for winning, without much mention of their artists who actually get the votes. That being said, the chemistry between former coach Adam and veteran coach Blake, the new love-hate vibes between Kelly and Blake, and the rotating cast of superstar coaches, viewers have not gotten tired of all of the behind-the-scenes banter.
