According to a new casting breakdown, the 2018 Arrowverse crossover event could include a third Kryptonian character. The crossover will already feature Supergirl (Melissa Benoist), and her cousin Superman (Tyler Hoechlin).
This year's crossover will send Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl to Gotham City, where viewers will be introduced to Ruby Rose's Batwoman. The event will also serve as the Arrowverse debut for Lois Lane, who will be joined by Superman, who hasn't appeared on Supergirl since season 2. Superman will be on all three shows, which is the first time he'll be featured in any Arrowverse series other than Supergirl.

That Hashtag Show is reporting that two characters, "Lon-El" and "Dr. Elias Kern", are being cast to appear in the crossover. As with most casting calls, it's likely that these names are just placeholders to hide their true identities. Interestingly, the "Lon-El" character shares Superman's family name, and is described as a mysterious visitor from another planet. Characterized as both "inscrutable" and "ambiguous", he possesses "nearly infinite" power, which does make him sound like Superman, or any Kryptonian exposed to the rays of the yellow sun.
That Hashtag Show suggests that Lon-El could somehow be Superman's father, Jor-El, which would make for a shocking twist, seeing that Jor-El died during Krypton's destruction. As the comics have found ways to bring numerous Kryptonians to Earth, it's hard to tie Lon-El to any character from the source material. It's possible that the crossover is preparing to introduce an original character. It's said that after the crossover, Lon-El can recur in the other Arrowverse shows, including Legends of Tomorrow, which won't have a part in the event.
This casting breakdown could reveal major plot details for the crossover event, including the identity of the main antagonist. Based on the description for Lon-El, the alien visitor definitely fits the bill for a villain capable of threatening the heroes of the Arrowverse. This could explain the presence of Superman and Supergirl. There aren't many threats to the world that would require the assistance of both Kryptonian heroes. As the crossover will set the stage for a Batwoman TV series, many are expecting the crossover to focus a great deal on Gotham City and the world of Batman, even if Batman is conspicuously absent. However, this news regarding Lon-El indicates that the event may have less to do with Batman characters, and more to do with the world of Superman.
