Charmed may have revealed its first central villain, with Craig Parker (Reign, Lord of The Rings) reportedly added to the cast. While the "Power of Three" and their new whitelighter (Rupert Evans) have all been introduced, this marks the first reoccurring villain to go up against the new trio.
Charmed trailer footage has shown the sisters going up against seemingly one-off demons so far. Maggie (Sarah Jeffery), the youngest, was seen contending with an Underworld creature disguised as a fellow college student, and the trio were seen chanting a vanquishing spell in a laboratory - possibly the workplace of Macy (Madeleine Mantock), the eldest and a geneticist. The original Charmed (1998-2006) initially relied heavily on a procedural structural, with the sisters only discovering loose ties between antagonists from episode to episode. The Source, the leader of the Underworld behind the attacks on them, wasn't revealed until the later half of season 2.

Now, Parker seems to be in the perfect position to enact a barrage of malevolent schemes to destroy the Charmed Ones. As reported by TVLine, he will reportedly play Alastair Caine, the polished CEO of Morningstar Biotech, which funds the town's university where Macy works, and Maggie and Mel (Melonie Diaz) presumably go to school.
Original Charmed fans may draw parallels with Rex Buckland (Neil Roberts), the devilishly charming CEO of Buckland Auction House and Prue Halliwell (Shannen Doherty)'s boss in season 1. Rex was responsible for numerous attempts to destroy the witches, even successfully blackmailing them into relinquishing their powers to him, before he was killed off. Implications that the new villain will meddle in the trio's personal lives may even suggest an attempted seduction. Rex briefly dated the youngest sister Phoebe (Alyssa Milano) as part of one of his plans.
So far, everything suggests Alastair will be militantly evil, but ultimately serve a higher nefarious purpose. Fans of NBC's supernatural soap opera Passions may have caught the reference to "Alistair Crane," the show's tyrannical billionaire responsible for countless sadistic plots. If this series does present a Source-like figure atop an evil hierarchy, sending spies to destroy the witches would follow the same formula. Julian McMahon (Nip/Tuck) who was a regular for three seasons entered the original show as a cunning but savage demonic assassin assigned to infiltrate and kill the trio, before he fell in love with Phoebe.
Considering the more political direction the show is said to be going in, Alistair's placement as a rich, powerful, white man indicates that the character may even explore an ideological comparison between corruption through dark magic and the unethical use of social privilege. Part of the Charmed canon is that good witches are bound to abstain from using magic for personal gain, whereas demons do so freely. So adding more layers to that aspect of the good vs. evil dynamic could result in some more fascinating showdowns.
