Ralph Breaks the Internet's New Character Is 'BuzzFeed Meets YouTube'

Ralph Breaks the Internet is set to introduce a bevy of new characters to audiences this fall, with one of the most notable additions being Yesss, played by Taraji P. Henson. The upcoming sequel is the followup to Wreck-It Ralph and the newest animated feature from Disney Studios. It is directed by Rich Moore and Phil Johnston, who helped make Wreck-It Ralph and Zootopia. Together, they talked about their newest addition to the Wreck-It Ralph universe, Yesss.

In Ralph Breaks the Internet, Ralph and Vanellope need to keep Vanellope’s game Sugar Rush from being scrapped.  The duo journey into the Internet to find a rare replacement part that can fix her game.  “Of course, Ralph, Vanellope and Felix and Calhoun are going to be back. As well as our original voice talent, John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, Jane Lynch, and Jack McBrayer,” Moore said. “And they will be joined by some incredible new characters including a character named, Yesss. That is Yesss with three S’s.  Yesss. Played by the incredible Taraji P. Henson, who you know, from Empire and Hidden Figures.”

Johnston continued, explaining the concept of the character:

“So Yesss, is an algorithm. The heart and soul of a trend making site called BuzzTube. You can think of it as, Buzzfeed meets YouTube. If it's cool, if it's trendy, if it's now, Yesss has discovered it. And she shared it with the world. She's going to be really important to Ralph and Vanellope on their journey through the Internet... She's just pretty cool looking, because she has all these different hairstyles and fashion. She's able to keep up with the latest trends through her website. And Yesss has the ability to constantly shift the look of her hair based on the looks that are trending at the moment. And her will change from scene to scene. That's our Yesss."

“And because she lives in a digital world, her jacket, for instance here is made up of thousands of fiber optics. Personally, I think she might be one of the coolest Disney characters ever, other than Sour Bill from Wreck-It Ralph,” Moore joked. Moore also provided the voice for Sour Bill. “Our team has had so much fun bringing Yesss to life and she's just one of many new characters in the film.”
