Prior to directing The Batman, Matt Reeves is re-familiarizing himself with the original live-action portrayal. Warner Bros. is putting the future of Batman on the big screen in the hands of Matt Reeves. Although Ben Affleck was originally set to star in, write, and direct The Batman, his future is in doubt. Without Affleck, reports point to Reeves rebooting the Dark Knight in a way, by taking him back to his earlier days as a hero. This decision will likely result in another actor being cast as Batman.
Whoever gets the new job, they'll be the latest person to wear the cowl. There's been great portrayals from Michael Keaton, Christian Bale, and even Affleck, while Val Kilmer and George Clooney's versions don't have too many fans. None of these are the original Batman, though, as that title belongs to Adam West (not including serials).

Reeves is taking some time away from developing The Batman to visit a Batman '66 exhibit. The director shared several photos from the event on his Twitter account. A look at the original Batmobile and costumes from Batman, Riddler, Penguin, and both versions of Catwoman are included below.
One of the reasons Reeves wanted to direct The Batman is because he is a massive fan of the DC hero. With that in mind, it is hardly a surprise that he is checking out this event to see some props from Batman '66 up close. While these photos are rather innocent, some won't be able to help but try and connect the photos to Reeves' own plans for the character. So are there any connections?
The only possible connection between the photos and Reeves' plans is Penguin. Reports have said that Penguin was either going to be the villain in Birds of Prey or The Batman, and he doesn't appear to be in Birds of Prey's plan, with Black Mask reportedly set as the villain. That should mean Batman and Penguin will square off in some form in Reeves' movie. There's been no word on what other characters Reeves may include, as his draft has only recently been completed. Could he also be interested in Riddler and Catwoman for his movie? Perhaps, but only time will tell.
Whether Reeves used this visit for research or just for his own fun, it is a nice reminder of how invested he is in Batman and making the next standalone movie. If his script is in good shape, then the targeted 2019 filming start could indeed happen. This could mean plenty of The Batman updates may be coming by the end of the year, or early next year.
