A new billboard has appeared near Disneyland asking for James Gunn to be rehired for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. One of the biggest shakeups in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe came a few months ago, when Disney fired Gunn as the director of the third Guardians of the Galaxy film. The decision was made after some old and controversial tweets resurfaced as part of a right-wing political attack. Disney wasted no time in making a decision to move on, but the weeks that have followed kept this topic at the forefront of many discussions.
Despite some reports that Gunn could be rehired, Disney is currently standing by their decision. They've yet to find a replacement for Gunn as director, but intend to still use his completed script. For Gunn's part, he appears to have moved on in his own way - by joining DC to helm Suicide Squad 2. This hasn't stopped Gunn from continuing to receive support in the aftermath of Disney's decision, and it's now led to a major showing of support from fans.

THR shared photos of a new digital billboard that debuted in Anaheim, California asking Disney to rehire Gunn as the director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The billboard was funded by fans, who collectively paid $4,000 for the billboard to stay up until the end of November. The billboard is just four miles away from Disneyland, but further away from Disney's actual headquarters in Burbank.
Fans began rallying in support of Gunn right after he was fired, and haven't stopped since. An online petition generated hundreds of thousands of signatures, but this billboard is a very public showing. The group behind this billboard hopes to buy another billboard, if they're able to generate enough donations.
While it's great for fans to show their support for Gunn and argue that Disney should go back on their decision, that just doesn't look to be in the cards at this point. Guardians 3's production is on hold indefinitely, and may not even start filming until 2021, so we're potentially years away from any resolution. The more time that passes could always allow for minds to change and Gunn to be brought back, but with Kevin Feige reportedly supporting the decision, it looks like everyone is moving on. Gunn already has his next project, and Marvel may be considering a handful of female directors to take over Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. If Gunn and Marvel are moving past this, it's probably time for fans to do the same.
