Red Dead Redemption 2 Launch Trailer Released, Review Embargo Revealed

With the release of Red Dead Redemption 2 rapidly approaching, Rockstar Games released a trailer marking its eventual launch next week. Along with the trailer comes pieces of news that the Western third-person shooter will launch on two discs for its physical release, while the embargo for reviews will lift on Thursday, October 25.

Announced almost exactly two years ago to the very date, this prequel has been long-awaited by fans of the first Red Dead Redemption. In the past several months, Rockstar has been giving information to these fans piecemeal, with cinematic trailers and long-form videos explaining the mechanics of the game. This second game, like the first, is a third-person shooter with a single-player story-driven story, and a comprehensive online multiplayer mode called Red Dead Online. With no new titles from Rockstar since Grand Theft Auto V, open-world game enthusiasts will finally have a chance to sink their teeth into a brand-new game from the studio.

Not only do these soon-to-be players get one more look at the game's story from this one-minute-long launch trailer, but they now know when the first reviews will be released. Thanks to a tweet from Metacritic, it is now known that the embargo for Red Dead Redemption 2 reviews will lift on the day before the game releases, Thursday, October 25, specifically at 4:01 am Pacific time.

The trailer is brief, but it gives us another look at the story's protagonist, Arthur Morgan. A member of the infamous gang from the first game, which chronologically takes place after this second installment, Morgan is depicted in this trailer as someone attempting to move on from his life as an outlaw - the opportunity arises in the form of "one more big score" that would give him the money necessary to leave. The trailer showcases a train heist set piece, while also showcasing the shooting mechanics of the game, and the feature to encounter wildlife such as the bear featured in the video.

A new game not only in the Red Dead series but from Rockstar period must be exciting for the video game community. Looming over the game, however, is the issue of the labor effort required to create the large-scale project demonstrated in that trailer. With word from Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser describing "100-hour work weeks," some concern from the gaming community has been raised about the conditions during the development of this game. Most consumers will remain unaware of any potential labor issues when buying the game, which is so large that it will be accommodated with two discs, per Game Rant. While excitement for the launch of Red Dead Redemption 2 remains, the final product and its reviews should be telling of just how big the game is, and how much effort was produced to make it possible.
