Alec Baldwin Arrested, Charged With Assault In NYC

Actor Alec Baldwin was arrested in New York City Friday and charged with assault after an altercation with a stranger over a parking space. Baldwin is known for his powerhouse on-screen performances in movies like Glengarry Glen Ross, Miami Blues and The Edge, but he's also been involved in several high-profile off-screen incidents over the years as well.

Perhaps the most notable incident that involved Baldwin occurred in 1995 when the actor assaulted a photographer for taking pictures of his then-wife Kim Basinger and their newborn daughter. Then, in 2011, Baldwin was removed from an American Airlines flight at LAX after he refused to put away his phone, reportedly becoming belligerent with flight attendants. In 2014, Baldwin was charged with disorderly conduct in New York after riding his bike down the wrong direction of a one-way street.

Baldwin's latest arrest came on Friday after the actor reportedly became involved in a physical altercation with a stranger during a dispute over a parking space, according to CNN. Baldwin was charged with assault over the matter and is expected to make a court appearance at a later date following a harassment charge, according to the NYPD. The stranger in question who Baldwin reportedly assaulted suffered an injury to the jaw and is in stable condition.

In front of the camera, Baldwin has seen a resurgence of popularity in recent years thanks to his satirical portrayal of U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday Night Live. The actor's most recent appearance as Trump paired him with Chris Redd as Kanye West in a send-up of the rapper's notorious Oval Office appearance, and Baldwin also recently debuted his own weekly talk show which has thus far garnered tepid ratings for ABC. He also appears as himself in Bradley Cooper's A Star Is Born remake, and he was set to take the role of Thomas Wayne in Todd Phillips' Jokeropposite Joaquin Phoenix, but ultimately dropped out.

As a young leading man in the early '90s, Baldwin established a reputation as a Hollywood bad boy. In recent years, however, Baldwin has segued out of leading roles in film into more eclectic roles in television - both in scripted series' and as the host of game shows and talk shows, including Match Game and Sundays with Alec Baldwin, respectively. As of now, it's unclear whether or not his most recent altercation will have any effect on his cameo appearances on Saturday Night Live.
