Ewan McGregor Is Obi-Wan AND DC's Black Mask In Mashup Fan Art

Brand new fan art imagines what Ewan McGregor might look like as a mash-up of Star Wars' Obi-Wan Kenobi and Birds of Prey villain Black Mask. With the actor in talks to star in the upcoming Birds of Prey comic adaptation opposite Margot Robbie and Mary Elizabeth Winstead, McGregor is officially fair game for imaginative fan art creations.

Based on Jordan B. Gorfinkel and Chuck Dixon's comic series of the same name, Birds of Prey follows four classic DC characters who band together in pursuit of a young girl being held captive by a crime lord known as Black Mask (McGregor). The quartet consists of Harley Quinn (with Robbie reprising her role from Suicide Squad), Huntress (Winstead), Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell), and The Question (Rosie Perez). Directed by Cathy Yan, Birds of Prey is attracting considerable attention with its exciting synopsis. And, following the announcement of McGregor being attached to star as the film's main antagonist, some fan art has surfaced - not only of McGregor in the role, but as the iconic Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi as well.

An artist from Melbourne, Australia known only as Kode A. - or by his social media handle BossLogic - created a mash-up of McGregor as both Black Mask and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Though the fan art is decidedly simple (the artist even says so himself in the caption), it's a fun nod to a role McGregor is perhaps best known for, while also envisioning what the actor might look like as the villain in Birds of Prey.

A far cry from Obi-Wan's devoutly considerate personality, Roman Sionis/Black Mask is a well-known DC villain who has a psychotic obsession with masks (hence his name and appearance). He was introduced in the Batman comics in 1985, known for being a ruthless crime lord in Gotham City, a a master of torture, and, on occasion, imbued with the ability to control the minds of his victims with the help of his mask. And, though he never appeared in any of the live-action Batman adaptations, Black Mask is one of the most enduring enemies that the Caped Crusader has ever faced (despite the fact that his first adversaries in the DC cinematic universe will be Harley Quinn and her crew).

Throughout his long and eclectic career as an actor, McGregor has played his fair share of both heroes and villains. He's played everything from the morally corrupt Alex Law in Shallow Grave to the effortlessly positive Edward Bloom in Big Fish, so this particular fan art is fitting, considering the morally mix-and-matched characters he's played in the past. That said, aside from stirring up excitement for his role in Birds of Prey, it can't help but set off anticipation for the upcoming standalone Obi-Wan Kenobi movie that may or may not happen.
