Martin Lawrence confirms he'll return to star in Bad Boys For Life. Sony has been attempting to figure out the right way to bring back the Bad Boys franchise for some time now and it finally appears as if the pieces are falling into place. Up and coming directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah were hired to helm the project at the beginning of the year, which was needed after Joe Carnahan exited the sequel back in 2017. The goal has always been to make the third film be a reunion for Lawrence and Will Smith.
Part of the difficulty in getting Bad Boys 3 off the ground, though, has been Smith's extremely busy schedule. It was recently revealed that his schedule aligned itself to fit in the next Bad Boys movie early next year, but the odd part was that it later came out that Lawrence had not yet signed on to star. For anyone worried that the Bad Boys wouldn't reunite, there's no longer a reason to fear that outcome.

Martin Lawrence took to Instagram to confirm that he is officially returning for Bad Boys For Life alongside Will Smith. The new movie will mark the first time since 2003 that Smith and Lawrence will share the screen, as Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett, respectively.
Lawrence hasn't been in a movie since 2011's Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son. In fact, he hasn't even acted since appearing in the 2014 TV series Partners. Now that he's returning to one of his most iconic roles, this has the chance to be a huge return for him. Sony has previously made announcements that Bad Boys 4 was in their plans too, so one has to wonder if the new deal Lawrence signed includes a return for another sequel, or if this will be his final appearance in the franchise.
As great as it will be to see Smith and Lawrence once again share the screen, their separation is actually going to be a part of the film's story. According to some Bad Boys 3 character breakdowns, Marcus is a private investigator and Mike remains a detective for the Miami PD. They will be brought back into each others' lives when a bounty is placed on their heads by an Albanian mercenary whose brother was killed by the former partners.
Now that Lawrence and Smith are both officially locked in for the sequel, production should be able to commence early next year as planned. This will likely result in casting decisions being made throughout the rest of this year, so we'll finally get to know who else will be part of the cast. And as long as this positive movement continues, then the January 2020 release date shouldn't be difficult to hit. After all this time, it finally looks like Bad Boys For Life is going to happen.
