Riverdale Music Video Reveals New Look At Flashback Episode

K.J. Apa channels his inner Luke Perry to perform Dokken’s "Dream Warriors" in a music video from the Riverdale season 3 flashback episode, "The Midnight Club". The episode, as its title indicates, is an homage to John Hughes' 1985 high school dramedy The Breakfast Club and takes place primarily in the early 1990s. Perhaps just as excitingly, the young cast members of Riverdale are playing the high school versions of their onscreen parents during the various flashbacks (with Apa playing Perry's Fred Andrews, Lili Reinhart playing Mädchen Amick's Alice Cooper, and so on).

The big mystery on Riverdale season 3 so far concerns a series of occult murders that are linked to a mysterious figure called The Gargoyle King and a Dungeons & Dragon-style role playing game known as Gryphons and Gargoyles. However, as it turns out, this isn't the first time that something like this has happened in The Town With Pep. In fact, most of Riverdale's adult characters played G&G back when they were high schoolers in detention one Saturday and... well, the show hasn't actually revealed what happened yet but, whatever took place, it was dark enough for Fred, Alice, and the rest of the gang to never speak of it again.

The CW has now unveiled a scene from "The Midnight Club" where Apa (as the teenaged Fred) leads a rendition of "Dream Warriors", just before things take a turn for the worse. Check it out in the space below, followed by The Breakfast Club-inspired poster for the episode.

While Archie's pursuit of a career in music was a big part of Riverdale season 1, that plot thread was largely pushed to the back-burner after the character was taken under Hiram Lodge's wing during season 2. With Archie currently in prison (after being falsely accused of murder, following his fallout with Hiram), he hasn't exactly been free to work on his singing/guitar-playing of late, either. Fortunately, Apa will get another chance to show-off his music talents with "The Midnight Club", with Camila Mendes and Ashleigh Murray - both of whom also sang in Riverdale season 3's previous music numbers - among those joining him here.

Whatever "The Midnight Club" does or does not reveal about the bigger mystery surrounding The Gargoyle King, it should be fun to watch Riverdale's young cast channel their older costars in the episode (and dressed in some impressive '90s fashion, no less). The episode further promises to fill in some of the blanks when it comes to Alice and FP Jones' (Skeet Ulrich) backstory, which is only fitting in light of their recent romantic reunion in the show's present-day. If nothing else, "The Midnight Club" looks to really drive home the idea that history has a bad habit of repeating itself in The Town With Pep.
