With the hugely-anticipated Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker getting closer every day, LEGO has revealed eight new building sets based on the movie, as well as the upcoming Disney+ series The Mandalorian and several classic scenes from the original films. These sets align with the 20th anniversary of the LEGO Star Wars range, which has united fans of all ages around the world.
Though only three months away from its December 20th release date, secrecy around the ninth installment of the Star Wars saga is at an all-time high, and speculation has run rampant. Fans want to know everything they can about what characters and plot beats they might see in the film, and historically, early releases by LEGO (as well as other toy lines) have helped them figure it out. This time, though, there isn't much to be learned from the previewed building sets, which will be available on Triple Force Friday (October 4th) and range from $19.99 to a much more intimidating $159.99.
Among the images released by LEGO include sets for Kylo Ren's Shuttle, the Millennium Falcon, a Resistance A-Wing and Y-Wing Starfighter, and a set called "Pasaana Speeder Chase." This last set, which takes place on the titular desert planet featured in the film, might be based on a scene present in the first TROS trailer - or maybe not, since the set depicts Rey and BB-8 versus a crew of stormtroopers, as opposed to the shot we saw in the teaser which featured Poe, Finn, and C-3PO. The other sets are notable mostly for their minifigures depicting new characters, including the First Order's General Pryde, anti-heroine Zorri Bliss, and two members of the mysterious Knights of Ren. Most notably, an entirely new character appears in the Millennium Falcon set, an alien named Boolio, who appears to be aiding the Resistance.
Fans anticipating more news on The Mandalorian have only one set to puzzle over: called "AT-ST Raider," the set appears to depict a worn-down Imperial walker utilized by criminals, and presents minifigures of The Mandalorian (who is played by Game of Thrones alum Pedro Pascal), his ally Cara Dune, and two Klatooinian Raiders, who seem to be piloting the walker in order to attack our anti-heroes. The two remaining sets, Death Star Cannon and Yoda, are respectively a small laser cannon featuring Obi-Wan Kenobi and a Death Star Gunner, and a posable model of the legendary Jedi Master (along with a minifigure version).
Though most of the details present in these new LEGO sets are old news, fans excited to see fan-favorites like Lando Calrissian (present in the Millennium Falcon set) or finally get a look at the Knights of Ren, will no doubt be encouraged by their spotlighting here. In addition, the inclusion of the alien Boolio has already gotten Star Wars wikis and discussion threads riled up, trying to figure out who this character might be. That The Mandalorian has gotten its own set as well seems to reinforce LEGO's appeal to fans of all ages, given the explicitly adult audience of the upcoming Western-inspired show. Without a doubt, more sets will be released closer to or after the release of the film and show, long after the risk of spoiling their source material has passed.
