For over a decade the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has been a cultural phenomenon and cinematic achievement nobody could have predicted. It has spawned over twenty films and has created unbelievable profits for Disney. Fans everywhere have reveled in excitement for nearly all films and with the franchise headed in a new direction that is bound to continue.

A place for these fans to go and talk about whether this excitement was rewarded or punished is Rotten Tomatoes. While the Tomatometer importantly gives the critics' opinions, equally as important is the audience score where regular fans and filmgoers go to give their thoughts. These two scores often fluctuate and the MCU is no exception to that. Here are the five best and five worst MCU films according to the Rotten Tomatoes audience score.

10 WORST - THOR: THE DARK WORLD - 76%

A forgettable film, Thor: The Dark World is at the bottom of the barrel of the MCU from a critical point of view and not much further up in fans' opinions - Rotten Tomatoes is to be believed. Joint at the bottom of the MCU audience scores with Thor and Ant-Man & The WaspDark World falls onto this list for its much lower Tomatometer and the fact it is an unmemorable, poor film.

Fairly boring, Dark World does still deliver some funny moments and delivers some good action, especially with a solid performance from Tom Hiddleston as Loki. Ultimately though the film falls a bit flat and unmemorable. It does have a decent audience score though, a testament to the love and tolerance people have for the franchise.

9 BEST - MARVEL'S THE AVENGERS - 91%

Three MCU films hold an amazing 91% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, the one which misses out on the list is Avengers: Infinity War due to its lower critical score and over a million less reviews. The first of the other two is the original Avengers film.

It was a magical experience for superhero fans seeing such an awesome ensemble and an overall fantastic film. The script was great, the set-pieces were phenomenal, some shots are iconic and it is a fun, action-packed adventure. This film took the franchise to new heights and is still adored by fans today and that is reflected on Rotten Tomatoes.

8 WORST - CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER - 74%

Surprisingly low on the list, the first of the MCU's best trilogyFirst Avenger is a solid picture with a lot to offer, especially as the first of a great trilogy. The film seems to be better on rewatch, not quite fulfilling the potential of its narrative to the fullest but still coming out a solid film.

The movie is formulaic and predictable, with another example of Marvel's tendency for weak, one-dimensional villains. The performances above all else are the standouts in this film and it made way for the brilliance to come even though itself was nothing special, but a good film.

7 BEST - IRON MAN - 91%

Next up on the 'best' side of things comes the 2008 film that started it all in such spectacular fashion Iron Man. It is more critically acclaimed on Rotten Tomatoes than The Avengers so it gets the nod above it and honestly deserves so.

Without Iron Man, the MCU would not exist the way it does today. Superhero films were still in a strange place in 2008 and a cinematic universe like this just had not happened. Luckily with the perfect frontman and a fresh, fantastic hero, Marvel hit a home-run and the rest is history. To this day fans still gush over Iron Man and its excellence as the franchise starter, even despite the lackluster finale.

6 WORST - IRON MAN 2 - 71%

After Iron Man though, Tony Starks solo trilogy took a major cut in quality with Iron Man 2. The film relies on the strong performance of Robert Downey Jr. and his time on screen alone along with Gwenyth Paltrow salvage it into a decent enough, average film at best.

The movie is convoluted and nowhere near as fun, dynamic, or fresh as its predecessor. However, Tony Stark is brilliant and the decent script is witty throughout. As well as that, the action can be fun yet pointless. The film by no means has a terrible audience score but it certainly is a forgettable flick.

5 BEST - CAPTAIN AMERICA: WINTER SOLDIER - 92%

This film is phenomenal. Everything from the script, the performances, and the action works excellently. The film perfectly merges a spy thriller with a superhero flick and is the MCU's finest example of a genre piece that just happens to be set in a superhero universe.

Winter Soldier is one of the only MCU films which stands alone as a singularity, just a simply fantastic film that can be consumed on its own or as one of the driving forces building up the MCU underlying storyline. The movie has great performances and clear chemistry with its characters. As well as the political nature of the film being applicable today  heightening the film's quality, and helping make it a giant hit amongst MCU fans.

4 WORST - THE INCREDIBLE HULK - 70%

Harmed by its undeniable sense of separatability from the rest of the franchiseThe Incredible Hulk has not aged well as the MCU progresses. With Edward Norton being replaced with Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner following this picture, it simply feels disconnected. Even ignoring that though, the movie is still not anything special.

The audience score is bang average, reflective of the film. The final act is disappointing and takes away from the rest of the film, but apart from that, the film does offer some decent action from the angry green machine. Delivering a fun, if not forgettable film for the first two acts, mixed with audiences and critics but not being near the levels of its previous MCU film in Iron Man.

3 BEST - GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY - 92%

Getting a higher spot than Winter Soldier due to its higher Tomatometer comes the MCU film that came out of nowhere and set the superhero genre alight, Guardians Of The Galaxy. Beautiful looking, hilarious, brilliantly acted, and with charisma and uniqueness that sets it apart from other superhero films.

Guardians killed at the box office and became a critical success. The poor, one-dimensional villain is forgiven here more than any other MCU flick due to the brilliant quality of the rest of the film. The chemistry and acting are brilliant with everyone seeming natural as well as their relationships, in no small part because of the direction and Chris Pratt's leading performance. It is full of heart and connected with a mass of audiences, especially through the Rotten Tomatoes lens.

2 WORST - CAPTAIN MARVEL - 52%

The pre-release bombardment of negativity on Rotten Tomatoes led to an altering of audience score rules, but that did not do much to aid what has by far been the worst MCU film in terms of audience score - Captain Marvel. The film is better than the audience score lets on, but is nothing fantastic.

Even without an unfair pre-release issue, fans were still mostly lukewarm on the film, some finding it bad and some finding it great. Brie Larson, Ben Mendholson, and Samuel L. Jackson are all great in their roles, and there is some badassery from Carol Danvers. However, the film feels a little forced and like an average phase one origin story rather than the last film pre-Endgame.

1 BEST - SPIDERMAN: FAR FROM HOME - 95%

Surprisingly topping off the audience score list comes the Homecoming sequel which delivered in nearly every way, Far From HomeWhile Black Panther tops the Tomatometer with an excellent 97% it falls massively short in the audience score whereas Far From Home's audience score surpasses its Tomatometer by 5%.

The epilogue to Endgame delivers as such. It brilliantly sets up Spider-Man for the next MCU phase and shows what a post-Iron Man MCU is like - even if the film does arguably make Peter too reliant on Tony Stark. Tom Holland again is excellent, the film is visually stunning and takes an interesting route with Mysterio who was played well by the excellent Jake Gyllenhaal. It has great action, a fitting romance story, and ultimately is one of, if not the best live-action Spider-Man to date.
