Most TV shows have romantic storylines, but teen dramas really take the cake when it comes to entertaining relationships and crazy declarations of love. Dawson's Creek is famous for the love triangle between Joey Potter (Katie Holmes), Dawson Leery (James Van Der Beek), and Pacey Witter (Joshua Jackson). But there are many other memorable pairs on this '90s show, even if they aren't called soulmates like Joey and Dawson are...or Joey and Pacey, depending on which fan you ask.
With such a huge cast of characters, there are so many other couples who could have formed during the six seasons that the show was on the air. Here are 10 couples who would have made a lot of sense on Dawson's Creek but never got together.
10 Cliff Elliot And Abby Morgan
It would have been interesting to see some of the other Capeside High students start relationships with each other during the first few seasons of Dawson's Creek. Cliff Elliot (Scott Foley) may have been a love interest of Jen Lindley's (Michelle Williams) in Season 1, but he would have been a compelling match for Abby Morgan (Monica Keena).
Cliff and Abby would show why opposites can attract. Cliff may be a jock who is used to being popular, and Abby may be a cynical girl who has had some hard times, but they would be a promising couple. They could show each other how to be compassionate.
9 Nikki Green And Dawson Leery
Nikki Green (Bianca Lawson) and Dawson both happen to be at the same Cambridge movie festival, so they start hanging out and become friendly. Seeing as how they have both experienced what it's like for their parents to split up, they would have made an awesome couple.
Dawson's major love interests are Jen and Joey, and it would have been really cool to see him start a serious relationship with another character. It would help him grow and stop obsessing so much about having the perfect relationship with Jen or with being Joey's soulmate. Nikki and Dawson already get along, so it wouldn't be a stretch for their friendship to turn to romance.
8 Drue Valentine And Jen Lindley
Mark Matkevich's Dawson's Creek character, Drue Valentine, may be kind of a jerk, but he's not necessarily a bad person. And he and Jen would have made a really cute couple.
Since Drue and Jen used to hang out back when she was a wild child living in New York City, they already know each other and have a bond that they could build on. Jen isn't thrilled that Drue has come to live in Capeside because for her it's a gross reminder of the dark times that she experienced. But maybe Drue would be good for her as they could talk about her past. She isn't able to open up to many people, but perhaps she could talk to Drue.
7 Oliver Chirckirk And Audrey Liddell
Oliver Chirckirk (Jordan Bridges) and Dawson work together on a movie in the fifth season, and it would have been interesting to see him and Audrey Liddell (Busy Philipps) date each other.
While Audrey and Pacey aren't the worst couple, they're a huge stretch from being really positive influences on each other. They act like they're still in high school and they don't seem to be able to sustain a mature relationship. If Audrey dated Oliver, maybe they could motivate each other to grow up and become more ambitious. They're both fairly confident, bold people who are friendly and social, so they have some personality traits in common.
6 Joey Potter And C.J. Braxton
Jen and C.J. (Jensen Ackles) are in a serious relationship in the sixth season, but they never seem very well-suited. C.J. is a sweet guy... but that's kind of it. Jen needs to be with a more compelling person who can help her heal and become excited about the future.
C.J. would be perfect for someone else, though: Joey Potter. During her college years, she has some pretty strange romantic entanglements, from Eddie Doling (Oliver Hudson) who seems way too immature for her to Professor David Wilder (Ken Marino). It would have been great to see Joey date a nice guy and have a normal relationship where she could kick back and relax instead of worrying all the time.
5 Natasha Kelly And Pacey Witter
It's true that many fans will always ship Pacey and Joey, but let's say that the two still end up together in the series finale. It's still possible for Pacey to date someone else before realizing that he's meant to be with Joey.
Dawson and the actress Natasha Kelly (Bianca Kajlich) are totally wrong for each other, so much so that it's confusing as to why they even start dating in the first place. She's a little vain (but charming), loud, and confident, and he likes to sit on the sidelines and observe others. But Pacey and Natasha would get along well and they would definitely be a fun couple to watch. Their dates would be pretty hilarious.
4 Dawson Leery And Andie McPhee
Every Dawson's Creek fan knows that Andie McPhee (Meredith Monroe) and Pacey have a dramatic romance during their high school years. But what would it have been like if Andie and Dawson got together instead?
Since Dawson has a tendency to focus too much on himself and his so-called problems (when he's actually fairly privileged and lucky), it would be amazing for him to care about someone like Andie who has had tough times in her life. Dawson would emerge from the relationship a completely new person.
3 Prof. Greg Hetson And Jen Lindley
In the sixth season, Joey has a professor named Greg Hetson (Roger Howarth) who she becomes close to. He seems pretty mean at first, especially since he gives Joey a hard time and doesn't act like she's special (which she definitely expects when she's in an academic situation).
It would be funny and sweet to see Jen date this character as she's more mature than he is, so she would help him become a nicer person. And his childlike personality would be great for her as she tends to see the world as more doom and gloom than it has to be.
2 Andie McPhee And A.J. Moller
Joey has a brief romance with A.J. Moller (Robin Dunne), who goes to college in Boston, but it seems like he would be a much better match for Andie.
It would make a lot of sense for Andie to date someone who is slightly older and already in college as she gets into school much earlier than the other characters. She even finishes her final year of high school months ahead of schedule. She needs someone who is much more mature than Pacey and who can understand what she has been through.
1 Joey Potter And Chris Wolfe
Jason Behr's Dawson's Creek character is Chris Wolfe, who at first glance seems like the last person who should date Joey. He's conceited and a little mean, and he likes both Jen and Abby at various times, which is pretty awkward since they are good friends.
Chris needs to date someone who can show him the error of his ways and teach him to be a legitimate human being. Joey could definitely do that, and it would also benefit her to date someone who isn't Dawson or Pacey during her high school years. Chances are, after spending time with him she would get to know the real Chris Wolfe, and that would be inspiring to see.
