Another day and there’s another Instagram effect filter doing the rounds - this time it’s Star Wars. With a new movie having recently hit theaters and Disney+ riding a massive The Mandalorian and Baby Yoda wave right now, Star Wars hype is at a high. Therefore, it’s not that surprising the hype (and this new filter) has now made its way to the popular video-sharing social network, Instagram.
A few weeks ago, a Disney-themed 'What Disney Are You' Instagram filter surfaced which let users quickly link themselves with a Disney character. While the idea was the chosen character is based on the person, the characters were actually randomly generated. However, that did not stop the Instagram filter immediately taking off with both the general public and celebrities getting in on the Disney action.
Following on from the Disney filter, a Star Wars version is now doing the rounds. The filter works in an almost identical way with users once again able to see which Star Wars character they are most like. As was the case with the Disney version, the results are randomly generated again and so users should not be too upset if they end up with Jabba the Hutt instead of Hans Solo. One person who was certainly not upset with their results was Mark Hamill who recently posted a video to Twitter of himself playing with the filter and yes, ending up with none other than Luke Skywalker.
Getting started with the new Star Wars effect is relatively simple. You first need to make sure the Instagram app on your smartphone is up to date. Following this, if you open the app and tap on the search bar you will need to search for the effect's creator. In this case, that’s “Antony Tran” or “at.augmented.” Open Tran’s profile and tap on the smiley face icon just above Tran’s Instagram posts. This will open the various effects Tran has released, including the new Star Wars one which should appear at the top of the list. Tapping directly on the Star Wars effect will launch an Instagram Stories video showing you what you can expect along with a “Try It” link in the bottom-left corner of the screen to give the effect a try for yourself.
Once in the “Try It” mode, a “Which Star Wars" link is visible at the bottom of the screen. Clicking this opens more information about the filter, as well as the option to “Save Effect” - so you can easily access it again later on and without having to repeat the steps mentioned above. Alternatively, if you want an even quicker and easier way to access the filter then just click here. Providing you have the Instagram app installed on the device and are signed in to your Instagram account, the link will immediately take you through to the filter and let you find out what Star Wars character you are most like. And yes, Baby Yoda is one of the included Star Wars characters you might end up with.
