Friends: The 10 Funniest Moments From The Final Season

It's been nearly 16 years since we said goodbye to the TV show Friends, and yet, over a decade & a half later, here we are still talking about it.

That's the kind of legacy that every major show should strive to leave, and it's also the kind of legacy that will never go away.

Alas, even though everyone pretty much universally loved the first nine seasons, there's a little bit of contention when it comes to the 10th and final season that was produced. While the popular opinion is that they lost a step, we don't tend to agree with that assessment - and we're here to prove why.

10 Ross’ Fake Tan

The best version of Ross Geller tends to be the one that is a little bit worked up and a little bit out of his comfort zone.

Both of those emotions were in full swing when Ross decided to go and get a spray tan. On two separate occasions, he didn’t follow the rules accordingly, leading to one of the heaviest spray tans you’re ever likely to see. It also caused Chandler to come out with one of the best lines of the entire series.

“Was that place the sun?”.

9 Joey’s Recommendation

Chandler and Monica were desperate to have a child of their own, but after it quickly became clear that wasn’t going to happen, they moved on to adoption.

They asked their dear friend Joey to write a letter of recommendation for them, at which point he decided to use a thesaurus in order to sound a little bit smarter than he actually was.

Then, after ditching that idea, he just wrote from the heart and sent in an unverified draft – leading the adoption agency to say that it was a good idea for Monica and Chandler to get a child to write their recommendation for them.

8 Phoebe & Mike’s New Names

As opposed to changing her name to Phoebe Hannigan, everyone’s favorite masseuse decided to mix things up a bit by formally changing her name to Princess Consuela Banana-Hammock.

Mike was understandably a little bit confused by this decision, but instead of acting immaturely about the whole thing, he made the diplomatic decision to change his own name to “Crap Bag.”

The delivery from Paul Rudd made it such a great moment – as did the connection between Mike and Phoebe, which was actually one of the big stories of the tenth season.

7 The Left Phalange

Phoebe had an inkling that something was wrong with the left phalange, and then all hell broke loose.

She was desperately trying to get Rachel off the plane, and while it did eventually work, we’re not entirely sure how.

The reaction of the man to Rachel’s left made the scene what it was, although the whole airport fiasco as a whole was really thrilling. From Phoebe’s dangerous driving to Ross trying to get Monica’s attention on the phone, the whole thing was a big ol’ panic that made for great TV.

6 Ross Gets Drunk

A lot of fans struggled to come to terms with the fact that Rachel and Joey wound up together at the end of the ninth season, and when Ross eventually found out, he joined that club.

Upon getting drunk during their double date, which also featured Charlie, Ross started acting out in a pretty crazy way.

The night came to an end when Joey decided to stay behind and look after Ross to make sure he was okay with him and Rachel being together. It got emotional, but it started off being fairly hilarious.

5 Emma’s Birthday

Hi Emma, it’s the year 2020. Are you still enjoying your nap?”.

Nobody was happy about having to wait for Emma to wake up before her party could start, and even fewer were happy when things went a little bit south with her birthday cake.

It was an entertaining episode from start to finish, whether it was Joey’s dramatic reading of one of Emma’s books or everyone playing with the wind-up toys.

The contrast was interesting because while the sheer act of having a child made them seem more grown-up, their immaturity came through all the same.

4 Ichiban - Lipstick For Men

One constant theme throughout the core of Friends is that none of them were particularly good at lying. Case in point: Chandler pretending he’d watched Joey’s showreel before handing it over to his bosses when in reality, he hadn’t.

When they watched it back the now-famous ‘Ichiban - lipstick for men’ advert was revealed. The initial advert was good enough for most of us, but it was made even better when Joey made Chandler wear the blue lipstick after the fact.

It was viewed as a silly idea that was executed really well.

3 Joey Doesn’t Share Food

While it may not have been a consistent theme from the very first episode, it was always pretty obvious that Joey Tribbiani liked his food – to the point where he wanted to have it all to himself.

When this manifested into an episode of Joey picking food over a woman, it served as one of the character’s biggest highlights from a season that saw him being ‘dumbed down’ quite a bit.

Joey clearly wanted to get more serious after his brief relationship with Rachel, but when push came to shove, his priorities were elsewhere.

2 Ross’ New Shirt

Ross decided to take fashion advice from Rachel, and while the actual clothes she picked out for him were probably great, he accidentally took the wrong bag and instead wore a shirt designed for women to his date.

Instead of realizing his mistake, he just kind of went with it, before he eventually turned up and was faced with the reality that his date also had the same top on as him.

It was the sort of sitcom gold that Friends had been pumping out for years prior to this, and in many ways, it marked a return to their golden years.

1 Late To Thanksgiving

Everything about the final thanksgiving episode was great. Ross’ reaction to the foam finger, the Chanberries, Joey tearing Ross’ pocket, Joey’s facial expressions, the food being ruined, and more.

Only these six pals would’ve been able to mess things up this badly, and that’s what made it so special. They’d been involved in a series of high-quality thanksgiving episodes since the show first went on air back in 1994, and they made sure to sign off with another strong offering that left fans wondering why they decided to end their run at 10 seasons.
