Throughout the films, books, and theme park, there has been a lot of delicious-looking treats in Harry Potter's Wizarding World. However, some have looked quite disgusting. From booger flavored jelly-beans to deadly lollipops, be prepared, for some of these may make your stomach turn. Honeydukes, outside of Hogsmeade has been the supplier of most of these strange things.
Most of these treats and drinks are also available in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter located in Universal Studios Hollywood and Orlando but you should definitely only try them at your own discretion. Here are 10 of the most disgusting drinks and treats from the Wizarding World.
10 Chocolate Frog
In Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone, Chocolate Frogs in concept seemed disgusting. It's chocolate made in the form of a frog that has a spell cast on it to act as a live one. In the movie, it resembles a real frog far too much for poor Harry to want to bite into it. He does, however, receive the most important part of the treat, the card. In fact, he gets one with Hogwarts Headmaster, Albus Dumbledore himself.
The version at the park is much more appealing than the one seen in the movie.
9 Gurdyroot Infusion
This disgusting concoction is created using a plant that looks very similar to an onion. According to Luna Lovegood, it was used to ward off Glulping Plimpy's, some sort of pest. This drink is shown in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows when Xenophilius Lovegood creates it and offers it to Harry and his friends. Harry, Hermoine, and Ron all find the drink extremely disgusting and foul-smelling.
Harry compares it to the bogey flavor of Every-Flavor beans which is pretty bad considering that's one of, if not the most disgusting flavor. It's definitely not something you want to make in real life.
8 Peppermint Toad
Another treat from Honeydukes, Peppermint Toads appears in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. They are a peppermint cream shaped like a toad and apparently hop around your stomach when eaten. Probably not the best sweet to get if you're already not feeling well.
They're sold at Universal Studios and thankfully unlike their movie counterpart, won't leave you with an upset stomach. Still quite disgusting as a concept but might be great for a huge fan for a birthday party treat. Just make sure you don't get a real toad.
7 Hot Butterbeer
This is a drink that's exclusively available at the theme park (though it's definitely possible to make at home) and is unfortunately not as good as it sounds. Due to both parks being in warmer weather areas, there's really no point in getting the warmer version.
Sometimes it gets a little chilly in Universal City, but it doesn't justify getting this over a delicious cold butterbeer. This drink isn't super disgusting but the warm version takes away some of the best parts of regular Butterbeer such as it's sweet cold, soda taste with a creamy foam head to top it off. Warm Butterbeer tastes more like hot chocolate.
6 Cockroach Clusters
Made of real cockroaches and shaped like a peanut in the movies, these disgusting sweets are sold at Honeydukes as well. The thought of crunching into one with the thought of them being shaped just like the vile insect isn't pleasant at all. It's especially not going to be great for anyone with a peanut allergy.
The real-life version of it is still extremely gross. It's another strange treat that could be really good made at home but we'd definitely recommend you avoid trying anything close to the movie version.
5 Acid Pops
Acid pops are similar to regular lollipops but have a strange high-risk side effect in burning a hole through your tongue. It's extremely dangerous and downright awful that Honeydukes sells these in their shop in the films.
Until the Ministry of Magic investigates, you should be happy to know that the real-life version won't do so and is basically a regular lollipop that you've probably grown to love since being a child. It's a fun treat that's offered in the Theme Park and would be a great alternative as to trying your luck with Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans.
4 Flying Cauldron Butterbeer
While this is probably the closest you'll get to Universal Studios Wizarding World Butterbeer, it's still better to try making your own. It's got the creamy flavor that butterbeer should have but the soda tastes somewhat close to medicine.
It's definitely a decent alternative if you don't want to make your own Butterbeer but unfortunately is quite disgusting in comparison to the real thing. There's just something truly magical about the drink offered at the theme park and it's most likely going to stay that way until the secret recipe is discovered.
3 Jelly Slugs
Slugs are probably the last thing you'd want to put in your mouth. The first thought that comes to mind is the scene in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets when Ron attempts to curse Draco Malfoy with a charm to make him eat slugs.
This backfires and causes him to instead be cursed. Even in gummy form, they're still not all that appealing. They're basically the Wizarding World version of gummy worms which are actually pretty delicious but it's hard to trust anything that resembles a living thing from Honeydukes.
2 Blood Pops
These disgusting lollipops would make a muggle's skin crawl. Blood Pops appeared in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban when Harry stole one from Neville at Honeydukes. They're apparently made from real blood and are quite mysterious.
It's strange and creepy to wonder where the blood comes from? Blood of a fallen wizard? Perhaps this is (hopefully not) muggle blood? It's definitely not a good treat and Honeydukes may be up to something very sketchy as you may already be able to tell from the other things sold in the shop.
1 Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans
Every Flavor Beans are gonna either be really good, or really bad. It all depends on which flavor you get, unlike some traditional Jelly-Beans, the bad flavors inside of these are extremely disgusting. Some terrible flavors are grass, black pepper, dirt, sausage, earwax, soap, booger, vomit, and a couple more but we're sure you already feel uneasy from these alone.
Some of the good flavors are actually pretty delicious but unfortunately, it all depends on luck. Harry himself experienced the wonderous but somewhat disgusting beans and they're definitely a must-try if you ever visit the Universal Studio theme parks. Good luck.
