The host of The Today Show, Hoda Kotb decided to address the now-infamous Vanessa and Nick Lachey’s interview about the Jessica Simpson's gift-giving confusion on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen The host made asked what she thought would be a simple question, but it ultimately led to widespread media coverage.
Jessica Simpson thanked ex-husband Nick Lachey and his wife Vanessa Lachey for sending her a gift after the birth of a child. However, in an awkward interview, the couple denies ever sending one to her. While Simpson is doing her press tour for her new memoir, ex-husband, Nick and his wife Vanessa are making a press stop of their own for the reality TV show they're hosting, Love is Blind. In the summer of 2003, MTV aired Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, which starred Nick Lachey and his then-wife Simpson to rave reviews. The couple married in 2002 and by 2005, they announced they were divorcing.
The hosts of The Today Show, Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager will not soon forget the awkward interview they conducted with Nick and Vanessa. Both women appeared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen where they shared how they truly felt during that particularly uncomfortable segment. Fans will recall that Kotb had just interviewed Simpson a few days prior and innocently brought up the fact that Simpson had said that she was happy for the Lachey's and at one point had received a baby gift from them, which she thought was sweet. Vanessa shook her head and said, "It wasn't us, but thank you whoever sent it," even explain that she did not have her husband’s ex-wife’s address.
During the late-night interview with Andy Cohen, Kotb laughed it off as she said the interview did not go as she had envisioned. The Morning Show host explained that when she spoke with Simpson, the singer made it out that everyone was on good terms which made Kotb feel as if everyone was happy. Naturally, when Nick and Vanessa arrived, the host felt it was okay to acknowledge what Simpson had shared with her saying, “So, I was like 'Oh, so everybody's happy.' So, when they came, I was like, 'Isn't that cool? Everybody's friends.' And then that wasn't the way it was received." After seeing the couple’s reaction, Kotb admitted that she was left bewildered at what was actually going on.
The face of Bravo also asked Simpson about the gift to which the “Without You” singer clarified that she had never received one and now was not sure where the gift came from. Whatever truly happened will remain a mystery but at least the Morning Show gift-gate case can now be closed.
