How Love is Blind Differs from Married at First Sight (& Why It's Better)

Both Love is Blind and Married at First Sight deal with strangers meeting and deciding to get married. Love is Blind is the popular Netflix series that has everyone watching and talking about it. People want to know if strangers can really find their soulmates sight unseen. Love is Blind and Married at First Sight appeal to hopeless romantics and reality TV show fans.

Starting in 2014, Married at First Sight has been on for ten seasons. The series is based on a Danish series of the same name. Married at First Sight has been a major hit for Lifetime Network, spanning a few spinoffs and more international versions. Love is Blind is a brand new 3-week Netflix series that premiered on February 13 and concludes on February 27. Married at First Sight and Love is Blind are both produced by the production company Kinetic Content.

The same team behind both series explains why the series has glaring similarities. As previously stated, both series focus on strangers deciding to marry without seeing each other. Unlike some of the other dating shows, like the ones you’d see on MTV, most of the contestants' ages range from mid-20ies to mid-30s, but Married at Sight couples’ ages have gone up to the 50s. Love is Blind and Married at First Sight also both show varying stages of dating and marriage, including moving in together, meeting the family, and the wedding.

Love is Blind and Married at First Sight’s major difference is the marrying process. Married at First starts with the couple's meeting on their wedding day. A team of experts has conducted thorough research to find these six singles their perfect matches. They then must get to know each other backward. The experiment ends with them deciding if they want to continue being married. Love is Blind allows the singles to pick their own partners, but their initial interactions with them are through closed off pods. The couples then meet after their engagement and then date for about a month to decide if they want to marry.

Both series are fascinating to watch. Married at First Sight has a bit more drawn out episodes and process. Love is Blind happens in about a month, and Married at First Sight takes place over about two months. Love is Blind and Married at First Sight kind of act as opposing forces. Married at First Sight puts a team of experts in charge of your love life, like an arranged marriage, whereas Love is Blind lets you keep control but without the shallow distractions of looks and societal judgment.

Love is Blind is a bit more romantic in its approach, where the romance (sometimes) comes after the wedding on Married at First Sight. Love is Blind is a more fun show in it definitely takes more of The Bachelor style of romantic storytelling, but Married at First Sight takes a very docuseries, social experiment approach. Personally, we prefer Love is Blind over Married at First Sight, but they’re both good in their own way, and they give you plenty of compelling strangers marrying each other content.
