Jane The Virgin: The 10 Best Friendships on the Show | ScreenRant

Jane the Virgin focused a great deal on the romance, but the friendships between the characters shined just as bright. From Brogelios to surprising sisterhoods, every friendship added another layer of love to a show already filled with love. Jane and friends cherished each other, especially when they challenged one another to be better.

Whether it was the friendships between family or newfound bonds between old enemies, the platonic relationships on Jane the Virgin gave the audience more to root for. They weren't without their problems, but they were worth the struggle. Here are the 10 best friendships on the show.

10 Jane And Professor Donaldson

When Jane first met her hardcore feminist grad school counselor Professor Donaldson, she swore the two would never meet eye to eye. Jane believed fully that the romance genre could be both fun and empowering, while the professor felt romance made a mockery of women.

A few years down the road, Professor Donaldson became Jane's mentor and one of her biggest cheerleaders. What makes their friendship great is that it started in misunderstanding one another and ended in the two finding common ground. The professor even went on to help Jane publish her novel.

9 Rogelio And River Fields

The telenovela and soap opera stars made a rough start when Rogelio accidentally baited a wolf into mauling River Fields on live television. But the producers of Rogelio's dream project brought them together, claiming their natural chemistry was sure to bring in viewers.

She wasn't the dramatic actor's first choice, but Rogelio knew he had to make nice if he wanted his show to make it to American television. After a series of mishaps and miscommunication, the two finally made it to a place where they confided in one another.

8 Jane And Lina

Friendships that start in the trenches of middle school are always the strongest. Even though Lina and Jane were complete opposites, the two girls created a bond where they always had each other's backs. They had their fights throughout their relationship, but they always made up.

For a time the best friends were estranged, but once they talked it out their friendship became stronger than ever. Lina even asked Jane to donate her eggs so she and Danny could have a child. While that didn't pan out, Jane strongly considered agreeing to it.

7 Xiomara And Rogelio

While their friendship turned into a romantic relationship turned marriage, Xo and Ro started as friends. Their romance bloomed because its foundation was friendship. In a scene depicting a recreation of their high school dance battle, Xo and Ro break out their old moves only to find time and age have caught up to them.

But it doesn't matter that Rogelio injured himself in the choreography because their shared laughter made the moment a happy memory. Even when they broke up and moved on to other paramours, they always remained friends.

6 Jane And Rogelio

Jane grew up without her father, but once Rogelio De La Vega rolled into her life, it wasn't long until she started calling him dad. She often found his actions over the top, but she came to learn it was all from a place of love.

But both had a flair for the dramatic, and Rogelio embraced and encouraged that in his daughter. Their goofy father-daughter dance at Jane and Michael's wedding showed that the two shared a love of humor. They didn't take themselves seriously, and that made them the perfect friends.

5 Rafael And Luisa

Rafael Solano and his sister Luisa had a rough go, but they didn't start that way. In the very first episode, Rafael confided in Luisa about his desire to divorce Petra. She offered him sisterly advice and supported his choices. Luisa made her fair share of mistakes, and there were times Rafael was unfair with her.

Eventually, they made up and once more became the best of friends. By the end of the show, they'd become so close again, she even felt comfortable joking about how she accidentally artificially inseminated Jane.

4 Rogelio And Michael

Michael Cordero never had trouble making his in-laws like him. His sense of humor and sincere love for Jane made him the perfect man for his daughter in Rogelio's eyes. The two enjoyed one another's company.

While Rogelio introduced Michael to the world of self-care, Michael enthusiastically participated in Rogelio's life as an actor. When Michael supposedly died, it devastated Rogelio, which in turn devastated the fans. Michael's return as Jason was an equally hard blow to Rogelio, as he thought he got his best friend back.

3 Petra And Rafael

The two started as bitter exes after their divorce, but after some growing on both their parts, they ended up being amazing co-parents to their twins. These two made a weirdly perfect pair as friends.

While Rafael brought out Petra's softer side and allowed her to feel vulnerable, Petra never had a problem doling out a healthy dose of truth and realism to Raf. They always had incredible chemistry, but it was better as friends than romance. When Rafael asked Petra to be his Best Man, even Jane was over the moon.

2 Jane And Petra

The classic blonde versus brunette telenovela rivalry turned into one of the purest and best friendships on television. Enemies to lovers is a common trope in romance, but to see it brought to fruition with an awesome female friendship took it to another level.

After a few seasons fighting about morality, Jane eventually brought out the best in Petra, and Petra taught Jane to fight for what she wanted. The friendship they cultivated when Rafael went to jail for a time turned into a lifetime relationship.

1 Jane, Xo, And Alba

No friendship on the show was stronger than that of the three generations of Villanueva women. Through thick and thin, Jane, her mom, and her grandma had each other's backs. They shared everything with one another (some might say overshared).

They didn't always get along, but their fights never lasted. Nothing mattered more to them than family, and that bond showed in their friendship. They sought one another for advice and supported each other through the toughest times. Nothing could ever come between the Villanueva sisterhood.
