In order to be an NCIS agent, a character has to have a certain amount of skill and training. With the original series, a lot of that training happens on the job. In the first of its spinoffs, NCIS Los Angeles, much of the training had to happen beforehand because the series focuses on specialized cases involving undercover work.
It would certainly make undercover work easier if the NCIS Los Angeles characters could brew a polyjuice potion and become anyone they needed. The potions and spells in the Harry Potter franchise, however, don’t exist in the world of NCIS. If the characters had the chance to attend Harry Potter’s Hogwarts to learn some of those skills, these are the houses they’d find themselves sorted into for their time there.
10 Nell Jones: Ravenclaw
Nell is probably one of the easiest characters for the sorting hat to place in the Los Angeles office. She’s hired specifically for her analytical skills and spends most of her time in the operations room monitoring missions and researching leads. She’s definitely a Ravenclaw.
Even though Nell passes her field training tests and is able to work in the field with a weapon, she’s clearly more at home following patterns and putting together dossiers on suspects. Her keen eye for detail in research makes her a valuable asset.
9 Owen Granger: Slytherin
Owen Granger recurred throughout most of the NCIS Los Angeles series until the death of actor Miguel Ferrer. A leader within NCIS who sometimes acted as an antagonist for the main group of characters, he’s also an easy sort into Slytherin.
Granger’s ambition and his need to keep his thoughts close to the vest make him someone the team is never fully sure that they can trust. He might not be quite as good at spycraft as the rest of the characters, but he certainly knows how to play politics in the agency.
8 Sam Hanna: Gryffindor
Former Navy Seal, and seriously intimidating if you cross him, Sam Hanna could actually fit into a few different Hogwarts houses. He could easily find a home in Slytherin with his ability to slip into disguises and carry out difficult jobs, or Hufflepuff with his staunch belief in loyalty and his hard working demeanor. If pressed, however, Sam would choose to be in the house of courage under fire: Gryffindor.
Sam Hanna doesn’t typically think of himself as a hero, but as a guy doing his job. As someone who always finds a way to do the right thing, who stands up to adversity, and who never shies away from a fight, he’s a hero, and he belongs in Gryffindor.
7 Eric Beale: Hufflepuff
Eric is another character who could easily find his home in a pair of Hogwarts houses. His intelligence and ability to get in and out of computer systems without a trace would seemingly make him a lock for Ravenclaw. While Eric certainly values knowledge, his commitment to his job and the people he cares about makes him much more suited to the house of Hufflepuff.
Eric isn’t as adept at lying or strategy as the rest of his teammates are. He wants to be, but his strengths lie elsewhere. His frequent need for his teammates to see him as just as impressive as they are leads to him working just as hard in the operations center as they do in the field - if not harder.
6 Kensi Blye: Gryffindor
Despite Kensi often using the most logical approaches of any of the field agents, and despite her ability to come up with witty quips on the fly, she wouldn’t fall in line in Ravenclaw. Instead, there’s a bit of a rule breaker in her that lends more toward the courageous house of Gryffindor.
Her Gryffindor traits are part of what make Kensi such a great field agent. She’s able to call attention to herself when she needs to, but blend into the background when she wants. Kensi is also never one to back down from a confrontation, even if her enemy might be too big for her to handle.
5 Marty Deeks: Gryffindor
Like his partner in the field (and more recently, in life), Marty Deeks can be logical and play the good detective. He’s also probably one of the best undercover operatives the Los Angeles office of NCIS has managed to snag from the police force. He doesn’t have the heart of a Ravenclaw or Slytherin, but instead, a Gryffindor.
Deeks is hot-headed, often relying on his emotions and his gut to tell him what to do instead of his brain. That can land him in hot water, but it can also prove useful when leads in a case make no sense, or when one of his teammates is in trouble.
4 Leon Vance: Slytherin
Though he’s not a regular on NCIS Los Angeles, Leon Vance does like to make impromptu visits to the series. As the director of NCIS, he can pop up on any of the series, and if he makes it to Los Angeles or New Orleans, that tends to mean the case is higher profile than usual.
Director Vance is driven by his ambition - and his place in the agency. As a result, he’s an easy sort into Slytherin. He wants jobs done well because if his teams look good, he continues to look good to the rest of the political powers that might want to take his job from him. Leon Vance understands the stakes and plays the long game when it comes to political power.
3 Nate Getz: Ravenclaw
Though he hasn’t made an NCIS Los Angeles appearance since 2017, Nate Getz was an integral member of the team in the early days of the series. There’s always a chance he could pop back into the office from one of his many classified assignments.
A psychologist, Nate isn’t trained for field work in the same way most of the characters are. Instead, he frequently monitors interrogations and works up profiles of suspects to help with investigations. All that adds up to a pretty perfect showcase for a Ravenclaw in the series.
2 G Callan: Gryffindor
Callan is a lot like the quintessential Gryffindor: Harry Potter. “Chosen” for reasons outside of his control, and then thrust into situations that began spiraling before he was even born, Callan learns a trade and hones his skills to prepare himself for the life he’s landed in. He might not always like the things he has to do, but he never gives up.
His compassion, bravery, and willingness to stand up for those who can’t fight certainly make him a Gryffindor. Like Harry Potter himself, Callan has a sneaky side and could have been a Slytherin; but like his partner Sam Hanna, Callan would have chosen the house of Gryffindor in hope of proving himself.
1 Hetty Lange: Slytherin
There is no one who excels in spy craft quite like Hetty Lange. She’s got a penchant for tea and a mastery of all weapons put in front of her. With every season, a little bit more of the adventures that make up her backstory are revealed, but it’s unlikely fans will ever get a complete picture of her life since she’s so very good at keeping secrets. Hetty is definitely a Slytherin.
If she wanted to climb the ranks of NCIS, she could probably do so much more than run a single office. She could chase Leon Vance out of his office if she really wanted to. Hetty’s ambition doesn’t appear to be political, however. Instead, she seems to genuinely want to keep the world safe and train a new generation of spies. Hetty Lange’s methods just aren’t always on the up and up.
