At its PAX East panel today, game publisher Gearbox and developer Counterplay Games hinted that more information about the upcoming PlayStation 5 game Godfall will be arriving soon. Although it was originally revealed via a trailer for Godfall at The Game Awards 2019, little has been said by Gearbox about the project since.
Godfall is not the only secret that's related to the PlayStation 5. Not much has been shared about the console in general since its initial announcement. In fact, the website Sony created for the PS5 was quietly launched and found by fans, and still has no details at all about the upcoming console. The anticipated hardware upgrades and requirements for the new console will be costly to acquire and produce, which will then drive up the price of the PS5, but Sony has not yet confirmed anything about the cost of their new console. Whatever the price ends up being, it will at least hopefully be worth it, as Sony did say that they anticipate the PS5 having a 6 to 7 year lifecycle.
PushSquare reports that Gearbox showed Godfall's announcement trailer during its panel at PAX East. It was the same trailer that they showed during The Game Awards (embedded below) which initially announced the game to the public. Godfall is the first confirmed PlayStation 5 game, and will likely release alongside the console this holiday season. No new details about the game were given during the panel, although Godfall's developer Counterplay Games said that more news regarding the game is coming "really, really soon," but did not specify when.
Gearbox describes Godfall as a "loot-based multiplayer online game." It's an RPG that puts the player in a fantasy apocalypse setting. Players can work together in teams or play alone to defeat monsters, raise their skill levels and collect special gear and weapons to improve their gameplay.
The limited information surrounding the PlayStation 5 and its games is frustrating for consumers. While the release date for the console is still a while away, knowing what to expect in terms of cost can help consumers anticipate their budget come this holiday season. In addition, Godfall is the first original title announced for the PS5, which gives it a lot of attention and pressure. It's going to set the bar for original games and what they will be capable of on the new console. Consumers need to know what they can expect from Godfall as soon as possible, in order to justify to themselves what they will be pre-ordering or buying will be worth it, and the same goes for the PS5. The secrecy surrounding the PlayStation 5 and Godfall could be worth it if Sony and Gearbox can deliver incredible products that will live up to the hype and anticipation they've built around themselves.
