George Costanza is one of those characters who is so much fun to laugh at. Though Seinfeld is filled with characters who are maybe less intelligent or cool than they think, George is the all-time loser of the show. And the fact that he is such a selfish and petty person means we don't even feel bad for how much joy we get from his misery.
From his job to his relationships to his everyday life, George is the epitome of uncool. He does so many things that make us cringe as an audience, but we clamor to see how he can possibly make more of a fool of himself. Here are George Costanza's lamest moments on Seinfeld.
10 Napping At Work
When thinking of all of George's less-impressive traits, laziness has to be pretty high on that list. He will go to great lengths to ensure that he does as little work as possible. Perhaps his finest moment of laziness comes when tries to find the optimal way to nap while at work.
We've all probably had those moments at work when we wished we could have a quick nap, but George takes that fantasy to an extreme. He hires a contractor to build a small nap space under his desk where he spends most of the day. If only he dedicated that money and energy to something worthwhile.
9 Pretending To Be A Bad Boy
Some people are attracted to danger and are drawn to rebels. When George meets a cute girl who works for Elaine, Elaine tries to dissuade the girl from making a mistake by telling her George is no good. The girl misinterprets this to mean George is a bad boy, which she finds thrilling.
Since being a cool bad boy is the farthest thing from George's real personality, he has to put a lot of work into the ruse. In the end, he tries to impress the girl by claiming to be a movie bootlegger. This leads to him being arrested, crying in front of the girl and having to be picked up by his father.
8 Trying To Prove He's Not Racist
Despite being a selfish person in general, George spends a lot of energy worrying about what people think about him. When his supervisor at work hints that he thinks George is racist, George attempts to prove him wrong by introducing him to his black friend.
The only problem with this ignorant and pathetic plan is that George doesn't have any black friends. Instead, he hires Jerry's old exterminator, who happens to be black, to pose as his friend. Ironically, that is probably the most racially offensive thing George has done.
7 The Manure Talk
George loves small talk and discussing his many ridiculous ideas in great detail. While that is a suitable conversation to have with Jerry at the diner, it might not be the best idea for a first date.
After asking out one of the waitresses at the diner, they go for a nice walk in the park. George decides this would be the perfect time to bring up his love of manure and how he doesn't see it as such a bad thing. It's around this time that the girl suddenly brings up the fact that she has a boyfriend.
6 The Answering Machine
Given how little effort George gives towards his career or his relationships, it's fascinating to see the kinds of things he chooses to spend his time on. His answering machine message is one particularly strange passion project as he records a long, goofy song as his outgoing message.
While the message is certainly hilarious, it doesn't seem like George sees the humor in it the same way we do. He probably thinks it's a really clever and creative thing to do and he cannot understand why people find it so annoying.
5 Lying To Suzanne's Parents
Lying is second nature to George, and he takes great pride in it. So when his lies are challenged, he takes that as a personal insult. After running into the parents of Suzanne, his deceased fiancé, George makes up a lie about spending time at his Hamptons beach house.
Suzanne's parents immediately know that he is lying but George is unwilling to cave. He keeps the lie going by inviting them to the imaginary beach house and, calling his bluff, they accept. He continues to push the lie further and further, hoping they will concede first, but they are persistent in exposing him as a sad little liar.
4 Eating Garbage
We have seen George sink to some unbelievable depths of depravity on the show before, but this one might have them all beat. During a rare charming streak with his new girlfriend, George is invited to meet her parents and continues to be the perfect boyfriend.
We all know he will find a way to mess this up and he certainly does. When along in the kitchen, George spots a tempting pastry in the garbage and decides to eat it just as the mother walks in. There really is no coming back from that.
3 Erotic Photoshoot
George has always had a confidence problem when it comes to women. So when he thinks a girl he's been flirting with slipped him a sexy photo of herself, he doesn't know how to respond. Kramer advises him on reciprocating with a sexy photo of his own.
Oh, did George pick the wrong guy to help him out. Kramer pushes him further and further with the scandalous pictures and George just looks more and more foolish.
2 The Fire
George's selfishness is constantly on display, but one particular instance is maybe the worst display of cowardice and self-serving behavior you could imagine. While at a child's birthday party with his new girlfriend, a small fire breaks out in the kitchen and George shows his true colors.
He runs through the house, screaming like a mad man and pushing kids and old ladies out of the way so he can get to the door. Once escaping, he even closes the door and leaves the rest of them behind. When the angry mob confronts him, he tries to make excuses about how he was the real hero.
1 The Comeback
George can be an easy target for ridicule, but he takes every insult to heart. While indulging a little too much on some shrimp while at a work meeting, one of his coworkers jokes, "Hey George, the ocean called, they're running out of shrimp."
Humiliated by the jab, George thinks up what he believes is the perfect comeback, "Well, the jerk store called, they're running out of you." Not only is the comeback painfully lame, but George goes to wild extremes to get to use it, even following the man to his new job. And of course, the comeback backfires.
