The Office: 10 Things We Didn’t Know About The Office’s Series Finale

After nine incredible seasons, The Office ended with a finale to end all finales. The final episode premiered in May 2013 and closed a lot of doors (and answered a lot of questions) for longtime Office fans.

We finally saw Angela and Dwight get married, we learned that Michael and Holly had four kids together, Dwight was the new regional manager, and Pam and Jim were moving to Austin. There was a lot to unload in the finale but fans can agree that the show's ending did its job.

However, there are plenty of small details and Easter eggs Office fans didn't pick up in the season finale. Keep scrolling to see 10 things we didn't know about the show's final episode.

10 The Audience Member Who Has A Crush On Jim Is Also A Writer For The Series

The employees at Dunder Mifflin were filmed for a PBS documentary for nine years and in that time span, viewers had a ton of questions for the "normal office workers" they learned to love.

After the documentary aired, PBS held a panel for fans of the special to interact with the likes of Jim, Pam, Dwight, and so on, and ask them questions. One woman in particular stood up and told Jim "If I had Jim, he would have a free pass to do anything... He could do anything. Anything." The hilarious moment made both Jim and Pam uncomfortable but in real life, the woman asking the question was the series' writer, Allison Silverman.

9 Do You Recognize Dwight's Stripper?

At the beginning of the episode, the guys take Dwight out for his bachelor party and the girls head to a cabin for Angela's bachelorette. When the guys sit down at a restaurant, a woman approaches Dwight and begins to dance and flirt with him.

Dwight hilariously thinks the stripper is a waitress and doesn't know why she's not taking his order but in a funny turn of events, the stripper from his bachelor party is the same stripper in "Ben Franklin" and "Fun Run." It looks like Scranton only has one lady for the job!

8 Fifty Shades Of Grey Came Full Circle

In the episode "Promos," Phyllis has a new obsession with Fifty Shades of Grey, and can be seen listening to the book on tape at work. With her eyes closed and rocking back and forth in her chair, the office becomes disturbed by her erotic behavior. But in a funny twist, actress Dakota Johnson is in the season finale working in the accounting department. In real life, she starred as Anastasia Steele in the 2015 film adaptation of the book.

7 Meredith's Stripper Son Is The Same Actor As "Take Your Daughter To Work Day"

Meredith Palmer has said to have two children but we've only seen her son Jake (or "Jakey"). We first met him in "Take Your Daughter to Work Day" when he was completely arrogant and rude to everyone in the office (except for Pam because she's able to shred things).

In the ninth season, Meredith's son makes another appearance but this time as a male stripper. The actor who plays Jake the stripper is actually the same actor who played Jake in the "Take Your Daughter to Work Day" episode.

6 Wazzup!

When we first met Oscar, he was presumed to be straight. It wasn't until Dwight caught him with another man that we learned Oscar was actually gay. And thanks to Michael, Michael forced Oscar to come out to the office when he wasn't ready (but Jan gave him a pretty extensive vacation for his silence on the matter).

Fast forward to the final episode where Oscar is gearing up for Dwight's bachelor party, he explains that he was going to act the same way he did before he came out as gay. He then screams "Wazzup" to the camera. Funny enough, in the pilot episode, Michael had an obsession with the "Wazzup" fad and said it throughout the pilot episode as well, as apparently that's what straight men said back then.

5 The Panel Was Inspired By Survivor

Having the employees of Dunder Mifflin on stage for a panel was a great way to bring the viewers and stars together. But the idea for a reunion show wasn't original to The Office. In the third season, creator Greg Daniels knew that he wanted to end the series with a reunion-type show. As he said, "In the fashion of the post-competition cast rehashes familiar from reality shows like Survivor." Daniels even asked Survivor host Jeff Probst if he'd host the Office's reunion show but he declined.

4 The Network Didn't Know Steve Carell Was Coming Back For The Finale

Fans were thankful that Michael Scott (Steve Carell) came back for the series' finale. He was the star of The Office, and some would say the series lacked something special when his character left the show.

According to Entertainment Weekly, showrunners kept Carell's appearance on the show a secret from the network. During the final table read, Creed was the one who read his lines. And although Michael didn't have many lines in the finale, his face at Dwight's wedding was more than enough.

3 The Series' Pilot Episode And Finale Have The Same Director

Throughout the show's nine seasons, there were multiple directors who took their jab at filming different Office episodes. However, Ken Kwapis has a special place in Office history. He was the one who directed the show's pilot episode as well as its finale. Greg Daniels referred to Kwapis as the "country vet who birthed this puppy and had come back to put it down." Kwapis also directed episodes like "Sexual Harassment," "Casino Night," and "The Fire."

2 The Finale Took Over A Week To Film

For anyone who listens to the Office Ladies podcast, they would know that the actors on The Office worked long days to make the episodes work for everyone's busy schedule. Episodes like "Basketball" kept the main characters on set for 12 hours. The finale had a similar schedule, filming 12 hours a day and taking nine days to complete filming the episode. From the bachelor and bachelorette parties to the panel to Jim and Pam's house, the finale took us on a ride through Scranton.

1 The Deleted Scene All Erin Fans Wanted

Upon meeting Erin, we learned that she grew up in the foster care system and was never adopted. This part of her youth follows Erin into adulthood as she continues to look for a family or someone to call her own. Thankfully, Erin met her biological parents in the season finale, and it looked like she was finally getting her happily ever after. She even brought her parents as her dates to Dwight and Angela's wedding. However, in a deleted scene, writers had Erin's parents tell Erin why they gave her up for adoption — a scene Erin fans would have loved to have closure on, but it never made the cut.
