The Office: Every Easter Egg In The Season 7 Garage Sale Episode

The Office's season 7 garage sale episode had an array of entertaining Easter eggs and callbacks to previous moments in the series. The episode originally aired in 2011 and marked the beginning of the end for Michael Scott and his real-life counterpart, actor Steve Carell. Before giving the face of the sitcom a fitting sendoff, The Office took the time to plant little nods to the past.

The Office season 7, episode 17, "Garage Sale" was notably directed by Carell, his third time at the helm. The Dunder Mifflin Scranton branch decided to host a garage sale in the office building's warehouse. Each employee set up their own table to sell some of their possessions, giving Jim the perfect opportunity to fool Dwight into acquiring a packet of magical legumes. Meanwhile, Michael decided it was finally time to take the next step with Holly.

After buying an extremely expensive engagement ring, Michel tried to think of an elaborate way to pop the question to Holly. After Pam talked him out of using gasoline to write out the words and setting them on fire in the parking lot, he came up with a better idea. Michael took Holly on a tour of the office to point out specific locations that marked milestones in their relationship. When he first fell in love with her, the two were sitting on the floor by her desk doing Yoda impressions. As a nod to that moment, Michael's proposal mirrored that scene before she happily said yes. That was just one of several special callbacks and references to previous episodes.

The garage sale in the warehouse had a few amusing Easter eggs, especially for eagle-eyed viewers. Throughout the episode, the items that the employees were selling could be briefly seen. The most prominent was Michael's St. Pauli Girl neon sign that Jan scorned him for in "Dinner Party." Michael's table additionally included another item from that memorable episode with a quick glimpse of the broken plasma screen TV. After fighting during the dinner, Jan threw one of Michael's Dundies at the TV, shattering the screen.

That wasn't the only item to make a comeback during The Office garage sale episode. At Jim and Pam's table in the warehouse, the creepy clown picture could be seen. The picture was bolted into the wall at Jim's parents' house when he bought it from them. Years later, he finally managed to get it off of the wall and took effort in getting rid of it for good. These little references to earlier episodes were especially meaningful after the episode took a gloomy turn when revealing Michael was planning to move to Colorado with Holly. Michael was present for three more episodes of The Office but his exit was planned and it was clear the series would never be the same.
