Top Gun: Maverick Super Bowl TV Spot | Screen Rant

A new Super Bowl TV spot for Top Gun: Maverick has aired that shows more footage of Tom Cruise's hotly-anticipated sequel. Over three decades since he last played Maverick, Cruise is getting back in the pilot seat this summer for a sequel to the original Top Gun. The new installment is directed by Joseph Kosinski (TRON: Legacy) and features the return of Val Kilmer as Iceman, along with a new roster of pilots - including Goose's son Bradley Bradshaw, played by Miles Teller.

Although sequels that take this long to make have a shaky track record, excitement for Top Gun: Maverick has been high ever since the surprise launch of its first trailer last summer. The footage showcased exhilarating flight sequences as we've never seen before, as well as the promise of another adventure with Maverick. The anticipation only grew from there with the release of the second trailer at the end of 2019. Now, Paramount Pictures is continuing its aggressive marketing campaign for Top Gun: Maverick by bringing it to the biggest sporting event of the year.

Ahead of Super Bowl LIV, Paramount has released a brand new TV spot for Top Gun: Maverick, bringing even more exposure for the adrenaline-filled sequel. The spot arrives months before the film's June 2020 release date and further showcases the next chapter of Pete Mitchell's life.

Through all of the new glimpses at Top Gun: Maverick that this spot delivers, it may be a piece of dialogue that hits home most for longtime fans of the franchise. One of the first voices heard is that of Teller's Bradley Bradshaw, who states how he will not trust Pete as his dad did. Instead of Maverick having a great relationship with his former wingman's son, Top Gun: Maverick appears to be adding some understandable animosity between them, especially from Bradley's point of view. With this spot putting more of an emphasis on Maverick’s relationship with Goose’s son, seeing how this relationship evolves will likely be a key part to the story.

Of course, this spot included more than just a tease of Pete’s complicated relationship with Goose’s son. There’s a tease of someone being court-martialed and dishonorably discharged, which very well could be the confident Maverick. This line could also speak to any of the new pilots that the film includes and featured briefly here. The footage also contains additional looks at the film’s flight sequences, which continue to look like a standout aspect of the sequel – and may incentivize audiences to see Top Gun: Maverick in IMAX when it is released this summer.
