Pretty Little Liars: 5 Best Friendships (& 5 Worst) | ScreenRant

The show Pretty Little Liars was full of interesting relationships. There were the main characters. There were their families. There were significant others. There were enemies. There were authority figures. There were members of The A-Team. But which friendships were the best and the worst on this TV show?

Down below, we will discuss this. There were some friends featured who were not always the nicest and most caring, but also some great relationships. So let’s begin, with the good and the bad!

10 Best: Hanna & Emily

Two of the main characters were Hanna Marin and Emily Fields, and their friendship is up first. While all four of the liars hung out and loved each other equally, these two seemed to have a special bond. Some highlights include when Emily worked with Hanna on a dance and when the two became roommates.

Plus, in real life, actresses Ashley Benson and Shay Mitchell are pals! And when fans see on-screen BFFs hang out IRL, it is a very magical moment.

9 Worst: Ali & Spencer

Ali was the leader of this friend group, and she sort of had a spell over them; she was pretty and popular, she had a nasty side, but when she got close to someone, she made them feel extremely special.

Her and Spencer were both bold and bright individuals, which meant that they butted heads quite often. It also turned out that they were related, which may have explained why they were so similar.

8 Best: Aria & Spencer

The other two main characters, Aria Montgomery and Spencer Hastings, also had a special bond, and everyone loved the Sparia scenes! They had their similarities, as they had both traveled, both loved to read and both were brunettes. And Spencer’s serious and studious ways balanced out/complimented Aria’s creative and free-spirited ways and vice versa.

While all four of these pretty little liars were amazing in their own ways, there was something really wonderful about seeing these two on the screen together.

7 Worst: Ali & Hanna

Up next on the worst list is another Ali relationship, and this time, it focuses on her friendship (or lack thereof) with Hanna. Did Ali really care for and love these four friends? Yes. And were the feelings mutual? Yes. But that does not mean it was smooth sailing; she did some not-so-great things… They just proved how fab they were by forgiving her.

For instance, all the comments Ali made about Han’s weight were awful. Friends are supposed to build each other up and support one another. Thankfully, these girls grew up, changed and made amends in the end.

6 Best: Emily & Toby

Throughout the series, different main characters interacted with different significant others, but Emily and Toby were the ones who were really and truly friends. They lived next door to each other. They went to prom together. And they were both sensitive and sweet individuals.

Sure, everyone hung out now and then, but these two went out of their way, in high school and beyond, to keep in touch and spend quality time together.

5 Worst: Ali & Emily

As fans know, Emily liked Alison as more than a friend, and they eventually had twin girls together and got married. Some may say they were better as a romantic couple than as friends, but in Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists, it was revealed that the marriage did not work.

Still, their journey as friends had some bumps in the road, just as Ali’s relationships always seemed to have. Ali was flirty by nature, but she led Em on, toying with her heart and messing with her head. Not cool.

4 Best: Hanna & Mona

The main characters of PLL were best friends, but some of them had other close pals, as well, such as Hanna and Mona. After Alison was gone, these two came together and ruled the school; they dressed in stylish ways (after shoplifting together!) and perfected their looks, as transformed people.

Then, they found out Mona was A. Then, Hanna forgave her. Then, it wasn’t 100 percent certain whether Mona could be trusted or not. But Hanna visited her and forgave her, and Mona helped end the game, making her a very valuable and entertaining resource.

3 Worst: Ali & Aria

And, yes, Alison’s relationship with Aria needs to be mentioned, as well. These were both feisty young women, who were not afraid to speak their minds… and this did not always please Ali. Plus, the entire thing with Byron cheating on Ella was not good; Ali knew about it, and she held it over the family’s head. Again, this is not something a real friend would do.

As with the other girls, though, Aria forgave Alison, they made up, and everyone lived happily ever after!

2 Best: Cobra

Cobra is the nickname for the relationship between Caleb Rivers, Toby Cavanaugh and Ezra Fitz, men who dated Hanna, Spencer and Aria. Their love for these women thrust them together again and again, especially when the girls were in the dollhouse.

With Caleb’s tech-savviness, Toby’s law enforcement career and Ezra’s book smarts, these guys worked together quite well. Plus, they seemed to generally enjoy each other's company and get along, which is good... as they will (hopefully) be together forever, thanks to their girlfriends'/wives' friendship!

1 Worst: N.A.T. Club

On the other hand, there was the secret club started by three other male characters: Jason DiLaurentis, Ian Thomas and Garrett Reynolds. The initials of this group’s name stood for “Nos Animadverto Totus" in Latin, which means "We See All" in English. Other members included Jenna Marshall and Melissa Hastings.

As those who watched this thrilling series know, it was bad news when any of these characters came on the screen… and it was especially if more than one was shown, causing trouble for the liars at one time or another!
