Sony's Morbius Marvel Movie Delayed 7 Months To Spring 2021

Sony has delayed Morbius seven months as the Jared Leto film will now be released in 2021. Following the success of Venom in 2018, Sony is moving forward with plans to create its own Spider-Man cinematic universe. These plans will likely include an appearance by Tom Holland's Spider-Man at some point, with Morbius already teasing references to the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Spidey in its trailers. As a result, fans have grown curious about what Morbius could entail.

Directed by Daniel Espinosa, Sony planted Morbius in the heart of the summer with hopes that it could be one of the studio's big summer hits at the box office. After all, Venom surprised everyone with how much money it made and including Michael Keaton's Vulture in the trailers has only continued to intrigue fans. But, it was not yet clear if these plans would stick as Hollywood has seen several changes come its way as a result of coronavirus and theaters shutting down. Now, Morbius is the latest film to get delayed.

As shared by Variety, Sony announced today that Morbius and several other of their 2020 movies have been pushed back. These include an untitled Sony/Marvel movie originally slated for late 2021, which now doesn't have a release date. Instead of coming out on July 31, Morbius has been delayed seven months. The movie will now come out on March 19, 2021. Now, any potential connections to Spider-Man 3 could be revealed just months before the Marvel Studios production is currently scheduled to hit theaters.
