The Prodigal Son is an excellent show that features a criminal profiler, named Malcolm Bright, whose father is a well-known serial killer. He struggles with his past and it causes him to enter some intense situations. It is not often that he makes the right decision as he neglects to call for backup when his life is in mortal danger.
We have compiled a list of some of the most insane things that Malcolm Bright has done on the show as he seeks to solve tough cases. It doesn't always turn out as planned, but the killer is caught in the end. Keep reading to learn about 10 of the most insane things Malcolm has done on The Prodigal Son!
10 Follows A Serial Killer Into A Slaughterhouse
In the very first episode, we see Malcolm Bright working for the FBI, but he has a neurotic way of performing his duties. We watch as he enters a slaughterhouse and is knocked out by the serial killer they are hunting, but he expected this to happen.
Malcolm knowingly walked into a trap because he was certain that his coworkers would be able to find him before it was too late. This type of behavior ultimately led to them firing him, although, it introduced us to who he was as a character.
9 Malcolm Doses Himself With Chloroform
Malcolm doses himself with Chloroform in an effort to remember what happened with his father so many years ago. This might not seem so bad, but it can cause some nasty side effects like paralysis, respiratory failure, and even death if taken in the wrong dose.
It was a risky test that should have been performed with others monitoring him, but instead, he decided to go this journey alone. This was careless on his part and only speaks to his insanity as he struggles to cope with his horrific past.
8 Electroshock Treatments Become Part Of The Job
Malcolm decided to put himself in danger by choosing to undergo electroshock therapy as part of the job. There are several things that could go wrong, especially since it was being performed by an organization who he considered to be more of a cult.
It could cause numerous issues and there is a slew of complications that could appear when a person undergoes this type of therapy. He didn't care what the outcome was because as part of it was for work, the other part of him wanted to use it to forget.
7 He Is Almost Bitten By A Venomous Snake
Dr. Edrisa Tanaka is the woman responsible for studying the dead bodies that turn up on the NYPD's watch. The second episode showed a venomous snake crawling up her leg, and Malcolm decided he would be the one to play the hero.
He waved a napkin in front of the snake in the hopes that it would strike, but he put himself in mortal danger as he did this. It was frightening for both parties as Malcolm put himself in danger once again when something safer could have been achieved.
6 Malcolm Stabs His Father
We saw as Malcolm stabbed his father in place of his mother, and it was a decision he made to catch a killer. He knew he could possibly do it in a spot where he wouldn't die, but it was still an insane thing for anyone to do in his position.
There were so many other options available for them to uncover who the killer was, and it lead to more clues that helped them identify who it was. It put his mother in law trouble as she took the blame and now had forced him into a pact with his father.
5 Routinely Visits His Father
One of the most insane things to come from the entire series is the fact that Malcolm routinely visits his father, who is the same man responsible for murdering countless women. We would think he would feel disgusted with him and his ways, but instead, he treats him as a unique specimen to study.
We even saw as he used his father's killer tendencies to help him in his studies in college and the entire thing is beyond bizarre. Malcolm should have kicked him to the curb instead of putting his mind at risk of manipulation from one man who is an expert at it.
4 Followed A Murder Into A Dark Tunnel
Malcolm was hot on the trail of the Junkyard Killer, but that very same man was toying with him along the way. We saw as he followed the man into a locked service access entrance and continues to fall into the man's trap as more doors are left open for him to explore.
He could have easily been killed as there were no witnesses and no one around to hear his screams. Bright managed to get away with some broken ribs and a lecture from Gil, but it could have been much worse.
3 He Pays A Visit To The Junkyard Killer's Grandmother
This is another instance where Malcolm refuses to call for backup and visits the killer's grandmother with a retired cop. He never could have expected that his grandmother was in cahoots with her grandson in his grand scheme to kill everyone in his path.
One simple call to let them know where he was headed could have solved a lot of pain and suffering for many people, as well as helped the police understand who exactly they were after.
2 Jumped On A Bomb
Malcolm saves the lives of his coworkers when he sees a Black Widow Landmine beneath the body of a corpse. It would have blown them all to bits had he not jumped on the bomb. This might not have been too insane had he waited for the bomb squad instead of removing himself from the situation.
He chose to jump from the third story window and let it blow up behind him, which could have ended poorly if a car wasn't there to break his fall or if the window had refused to break. Several options were still on the table, but he chose to take matters into his own hands as usual.
1 Malcolm Faces A Dangerous Gang Alone
Malcolm chose to join his friend as he met with a dangerous gang, instead of waiting for backup as he was instructed to do. He was taken with his friend to an unknown location and tried his best to sell his position as an appraiser to ensure the watches were not fakes. They eventually found him out and if it wasn't for his friend coming to his rescue he might have been killed for trying to do the job on his own yet again.
