10 Things Everyone Completely Missed In The Secret Life Of Pets 2

In 2016, The Secret Life Of Pets hit theaters and showed us the lives our pets live when we're not around. The movie takes place in New York City with pets being able to visit each other through the fire escapes attached to New York's many buildings. In 2019, Illumination Entertainment released a sequel to the adorable movie with a whole new plot.

In The Secret Life Of Pets 2Max and Duke are getting used to a life with a baby at home while Snowball teams up with a new pup named Daisy to save a circus tiger. Like with any Illumination movie, there were a few Easter eggs and hidden details that went undetected by fans. Keep reading to find out what you missed.

10 There Were A Bunch Of Scenes That Never Made The Final Movie

When the trailer for The Secret Life of Pets 2 released, it stayed true to the movie except for a few scenes. There were three scenes in particular that never ended up in theaters. In the trailer, we see Leonard throwing another epic house party, Mel and Buddy in the kitchen playing with kitchen appliances, and Duke hanging out with goats on the farm. However, none of the moments happened in the final version of the movie. Apparently, those scenes were chopped due to time.

9 Listen to Snowball’s Hum

When Molly is playing with Snowball before school, she dresses him up as a superhero and has a Superhero Animal Friends meeting with her stuffed animals. But when Molly goes to school, she forgets to undress Snowball so he keeps playing as his new identity. He runs onto the fire escape where a few superhero Easter eggs were dropped.

As Captain Snowball, he pretends to fight crime while using his hands to shoot out webs just like Spider-Man does. Snowball  also hums the theme song to 1978's Superman film before referencing his car as the "Bunnymobile" instead of Batman's Batmobile.

8 Candy Shared In Films

Once the credits start rolling for The Secret Life of Pets 2, Snowball pops up and starts performing his funny version of Desiigner's "Panda." In Snowball's made-up music video, we see a bunch of candy dumped out on the desk, but if Despicable Me fans look closely, they'd recognize those lollipops. The candy Snowball uses in his video is the same candy Agnes uses to lure her unicorn.

7 Whatever Happened To The Flushed Pets?

We meet the Flushed Pets in the first film. They're a group of animals who felt lost and forgotten by society and were out to get humans and the pets who loved humans. Funny enough, Snowball used to be the leader of this underground club until he was adopted by Molly.

Fans of the first movie were hoping to get some closure on the Flushed Pets, maybe even seeing them adopted by owners. Sadly, the sequel doesn't say what happened to them. For all we know, they could still be living dangerously in the sewers of Manhattan or they dispersed after Snowball left. Regardless, it's one of those things viewers wonder about.

6 Not So Fast!

When Max and Duke are in the car with Katie, Chuck, and Liam heading for the farm, viewers catch a glimpse of the car's license plate a couple of times."HQO6874" can be seen on the front and back of the car. But in a strange turn of events, the circus truck that carries Hu has the same exact license plate! Does this mean there's some sort of connection between Katie or Chuck and Sergei's circus?

5 The Meaning Of Hu

Since Daisy doesn't speak "wild animal," we never hear Hu talk in Secret Life of Pets 2. But his sweet emotions are shown through his eyes and body language.

When Daisy discovers Hu in the belly of the plane, "Hu" is written on the cage. Daisy assumes that's his name but in reality, Hu translates to "tiger" in Mandarin. The tiger doesn't appear to have a real name as Hu was just a description of what animal was in the cage. Even Sergei calls him "tiger."

4 Who Is Elle?

While at the farm, Max gets anxiety and feels the need to check on Liam. He peeks inside the bedroom window and sees Liam sleeping peacefully, making him feel more at ease. The room is quite dark, but if you look closely at the bookcase, you can see a diary labeled "Elle's Diary." But who's Elle? This could be a subtle shoutout to one of Illumination's producers, Christelle Balcon. She has done work on The Secret Life of Pets 2, Despicable Me, and Despicable Me 2.

3 There’s A Minion On Molly’s Desk

At the beginning of the movie, Snowball's owner Molly can be seen waking him up for the day. As she lifts him up for a hug, the camera zooms out and we can see a Minion alarm clock on her nightstand. This of course is a fun shoutout to Illumination's other franchise, Despicable Me.

Another Minion pops up in a circus scene when Daisy and Snowball are trying to rescue Hu from the evil Sergei.

2 Sergei May Have Already Killed One Of His Wolves

Sergei is the film's antagonist and is all kinds of crooked, cruel and abusive. As the leader of his own circus, Sergei keeps Hu locked up in horrible conditions and has a group of wolves protect Hu's cage while he's away. But after Daisy and Snowball successfully help Hu escape, the wolves are berated by Sergei. He calls the one the "worst wolf ever" and threatens to kill one to make a new coat for Little Sergei. As horrifying as that is, if you take a look at Sergei, he appears to be serious because he's already wearing one of the wolves' coats!

1 Why Was Chuck Carrying A Surf Board In NYC?

At the beginning of the film, we're introduced to Katie's new boyfriend turned husband turned baby daddy, Chuck. When Chuck moves in to Katie's place, he's carrying a surfboard. But, uh... this is New York City. Where is he planning on surfing? It doesn't appear that Chuck is an islander either because later in the movie, they drive to Chuck's family farm where he greets a man named Uncle Shep. If Chuck is a farm boy living in the big city, a surfboard seems out of character and out of place for this transition.
