Here's where Jake and Amy encountered the rather odd Mlepnos before their Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 5 wedding. Brooklyn Nine-Nine centers around the cops that make up the title precinct, who are all great at their jobs - well, aside from Hitchcock and Scully - but are all oddballs in their own way. The show started out as something of a star vehicle for Andy Samberg as Die Hard obsessed detective Jake Peralta, but as it evolved it became more on an ensemble. His budding romance with fellow cop Amy Santiago also became a big part of early seasons, before the two finally got together.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine briefly gave fans a scare when it was cancelled by FOX following season 5, but NBC picked up the cheque for season 6 and 7, with season 8 already confirmed. The show has featured lots of memorable guest stars over the years too, including Bill Hader, Adam Sandler, Sterling K. Brown and a recurring appearance by Jake's former sworn enemy turned friend Doug Judy, AKA The Pontiac Bandit.
Andy Samberg was probably best known for his work on Saturday Night Live when he joined Brooklyn Nine-Nine, where he and his comedy team The Lonely Island produced classic skits like "D*** In A Box" and the Michael Bolton "Jack Sparrow" song. One of his SNL co-stars joined him on the show's pilot, with Fred Armisen turning in a brief but hilarious cameo as Mlepclaynos - though the clay part is silent.
Jack and Amy first encounter Mlepnos in Brooklyn Nine-Nine as they go from door to door in an apartment building investigating a murder. He opens the door with a look of bemusement and an accent that's hard to place. He spells his unusual name for Amy before taking the photo of the victim she shows to him and closing the door. He made a surprise return later in season 1's "Operation: Broken Feather," where the duo encounters him in a different building. They question him about robberies in the area, but Jake becomes enchanted by music coming from Mlepno's apartment. The scene cuts to the two of them dancing while a visibly irritated Amy looks on.
Mlepnos final - to date - appearance on Brooklyn Nine-Nine came during the season five finale. Hitchcock and Scully bring him to play music at Jake and Amy's wedding but while they remember him, he states they've never met. He then offers to sell Jake some horse blood, but after Jake doubts his musical ability he performs beautifully on a violin - which he labels a "guitar." Even though his total screentime on Brooklyn Nine-Nine is less than two minutes, Armisen has still crafted a great comic creation in Mlepnos.
